Always a bit of a challenge to get the troops on side, likely can ride a MC but skills after that may be lacking. Patience oh wan kanobe Khuddy!

Yes, I am sure that the triple J had a special D2D rate and it may be best to actually phone to make your reservation. They have someone real on the phones during day business hours. Please just be patient and don't get all pissy pants right away if at first you don't succeed, we are all just humans.

And to Tok. The good thing about the Yukon and Alaska is that budget problems are keeping wide ranging highway patrols away but the boys (and girls) are close to town/city limits and they delight in spanking your pp for exceeding those speed limits which could be even worse if you come flying in. Lots of the community speed limits start a distance out of town and you can get nailed for dbl fines. The beer does not start to get warm until you take it out of the fridge, have not heard of anyone running out and so there ain't no race.

Is there a minimum age for the event? Can I ride up with my 15 and 17 year old sons?

Yes. They will not be the first youngsters of that age to attend. I believe Marbee40's (posted above) son has been attending since he was of a similar age and can confirm that that you should have no concerns.

The only danger to bringing young uns is if you can keep up to them and if you can afford the motorcycle enhanced addiction, go for it big spender!

    Northern,
Junior has been attending since he was 14yo. Keep in mind a few challenges:
    1. He's been riding since he was a wee tot.
    2. He earned his Alaska MC permit and attended the MSF course prior to D2D
    3. He rode well over 700 miles of highway with experienced riders giving him an earful at every turn.
    4. His "learner" bike was a WR250X on dirt tires. Low hp, 70mph top end.

My biggest fear wasn't the dirt sections between Chicken and Dawson. It was the LONNNNG boring asphalt between the Valley and Tok, specifically the Tok Cut-off. Everyone remembers the exciting stuff. No one seems to recall the brutal head winds, long straight stretches, and crummy seat foam. Yes, these are all part of any quality distance travel, but tough for young minds to deal with.

Another concern I had was that this is primarily an "adult" event. It's not explicit, more implicit. For some, this is the one big vacation they take to "get away" from adult responsibility. I thought my son was mature enough to handle it. Thankfully, EVERYONE at D2D treated him as if he was one of theirs. Quite a few stories of him being pulled aside by a kindly "Uncle-Gruver" to be given an earful for hooligan riding. Again, the atmosphere was one of acceptance, but a certain maturity is expected. I can't speak for the whole group, only give you my perspective. That first year was 2012. He has attended in 2014, 2015, and again this coming year. I'm proud of him for making the event a huge part of our lives.

Hope everything works out for your family. Don't hesitate to PM if you have Q's

Well said Jimbo. Jr has proven himself and grown in skill and decision making over the years. His "spirited" riding has gotten him (and ME, one time) in a pinch now and then, even a stern tongue lashing by a border agent. But his attitude and respectfulness has been commendable throughout his growth. Bring on the young capable riders. We need more Tanners out there.

Thanks guys. Both boys have been riding for years, mainly trails though. The older one and I rode to Dawson last year and he experienced the lack of excitement of pavement riding down the highway on a KLR.

Younger one has been riding a TTR230 off-road and I am trying to find him a street legal bike for this year.

Hope to see you in Dawson this June.
