Hey soberjoe. ...I'm not sure you know that camping at agawa bay is 42.00 for a tent site not including tax. Ontario pp are the biggest ripoffs for tent campers...
Yes, Ontario is horribly expensive for camping. I will play it by ear. I would prefer to rough camp, but I'll also be tired by the time I get through SSM, so we'll see what which option wins me over. I'll likely see you on the road somewhere along the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Me too. The weather has been crap this spring and I have not done much riding at all. I will be exhausted by the time I hit parry sound!
You mentioned in an earlier post that you were not on the 'Busa this time around. What are you riding this year? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On the road- day 1 got me to Sault St. Marie, an 11 hour day, the last 3 in pouring rain. I'll have ample opportunity to set up camp in the rain - not on Day 1 though. Super 8 was home for the night. Heading for Upsala today, and heavy rain in the forecast. My buddy Nicholas joined me from Ottawa to Deep River. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am in wawa. Rained for 5 hours of the ride as I watched the temp dropped by over 6 degrees. I caved and got a motel, 12 hours on the road was enough for me. It's now 5 c at 7 am and everything is wet with no respite in sight weather wise. I can recommend the White Fang motel in wawa though. Big clean rooms and the lady offered me towels to wipe down my bike in the am, I didn't even ask her. 84.00 tax included. About the rate for this area. It kills me to pay that but it was worth it to be warm, dry and comfortable, at least on my first day. The last 80 k were tough, I haven't ridden very much at all this year since the weather has been so crap, I am all seized up this am, time to pop some Advil. Yoga this am helped. Yikes....
See you up there, I leave Wednesday afternoon. Haven't been riding much this year either yet but will jump right in again. See how I am by day 3.
Day 2 brought a lot more rain - 8 out of 11 hours of riding was cold and wet- but it also brought some sunshine in the form of theshnizzle. Always great to meet and ride with another innate. A few pics, before the rain Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you... Just getting interested in this now, and will put it on my bucket list along with Alaska. Lived in BC a few yrs ago and recently got posted to NS from Ont. Never knew of it then, and would have been a heck of a lot less distance than the 9000kms now.
Ya, but then you'd miss the 3 days it takes to get through Ontario 8 degrees and raining now in Dryden with a heavy thunderstorm coming between here and Winnipeg. Glorious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Maybe I should ask for a 2yr posting out west to get these rides in. Good luck with the weather, that's what the adventure is all about. Ride safe.
This type of adventure riding I can only take so much of! It has been raining and 6 for the past 2.5 days. All day...Non stop rain and cold. Wind is picking up briskly now. Have called it a day. To tired, wet and cold to continue today.
And being the chivalrous rider that I am I could allow theshnizzle to put herself at risk in such a potentially dangerous spot as the Super 8 all by herself, hahaha . . . Actually I am guilty of suggesting we call it a day. Cold and wet sucks after 3 days. Adventure me that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As noted above, today was a short, albeit draining day. We only made it as far as Kenora, as it was pouring rain and cold the entire ride. This picture, snapped at 0700 this morning in Upsala, pretty much sums the day up. Apparently we will have better weather tomorrow. It will be nice to ride without being all layered-up! What bikes are you guys riding... wind protection? Any heated gear. Take it easy and bunker down when needed. Hopefully double digit weather and some sun soon.
I'm on a 2014 V-Strom, theshnizzle an F650gs. I finally mounted bar muffs this morning - my hands were warm and dry all day. I had the stupid things in my saddlebags all along! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
