    Wellll,
I was actually hoping others would put in their 2 cents and then we could find some support through a wider support base.
But there always seems to be those who are willing to complain yet remain uninvolved.:topes

The points Tom makes are valid but without a full contingent of victims where will it leads us. I still believe a sure fire approach is a media campaign right here on Advrider, where the email is passed along and phone numbers are passed along until their phones and email are full of complaints from motorbike people. Will it change Stan? NO! I don't believe it will yet it will raise awareness within the company and each year the speech will include, "don't piss off those bikers!"
I also don't want us to cuss at them or imply they tried to kill us. But report that the method Stan used is dangerous and could cause one of my friends to injure themselves while legally passing. Who would then be at fault?

    again Ideas??????

I would be more than willing to send a mass of complaints to Excel. All I need is the contact info to the supervisor/owner or whoever is in charge. Just let me know.

Hmmmmmmmm.........My question is......What is your goal here??? What do you want out of this????:huh

I passed some campers on the dirt section and thought they were crowding me. :fyyffMy take was it was their first time on dirt......they couldn't drive worth a shit.....they were watching us in their mirror.......they were scared shitless about their rig getting screwed up.:deal Drivers have a tendency to "drift" towards the side they are looking at the mirror. There is no doubt in my mind that riders were crowed when they passed. I can't speak for others, BUT felt the ones who crowded me were doing it do to poor driving skills and drifting over due to watching me in their mirror........not trying to run me off the road on purpose. :dunno

Got to remember the "rules a driving" too........Anyone driving faster than me is some kinda nut case and should be dealt with (get tickets) from the cops. Anyone driving slower than me is a pain in the ass. They should learn how to drive and pull over to let the faster (good) drivers (like me) past.:deal We could run circles around them on our bikes SAFELY......BUT.....they looked at us a nut cases cause we could go so much faster.

Many of the RV folkes waited in line for 5+ hours to catch the ferry and we could jump right on.......THAT.....prolly pissed them off too.

My bottom line is......Nobody got hurt (from an RV)......Maybe they were screwing with us on purpose......I doubt it......BUT who knows.:scratch I don't have the time (or will) mount some kinda attack on them. If you guys wanna kick ass and take names......go for it.:D I will sit here, drink beer and enjoy the entertainment.:lurk:lurk:lurk:lurk:lurk

    Good Evening Mr. Benton,<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
My wife and I were transiting the Top of the <st1:Street><st1:address>World Highway</st1:address></st1:Street> aboard our BMW motorcycle on <st1:date Month="6" Day="23" Year="2007">June 23, 2007</st1:date> in route from <st1:place><st1:City>Dawson City</st1:City> <st1:State>Yukon</st1:State></st1:place> to Chicken Alaska. During this hundred mile ride we were intentionally forced to extreme left the roadway due to your drivers swerving into our line of travel as we attempted to pass the slower moving EXCEL caravan; in two of the instances we were forced to within two to three feet of the edge of the roadway. This intentional act was an attempt to keep us from performing a safe and legal pass of the EXCEL caravan vehicles and had been committed by no less than a half dozen of the members of the EXCEL caravan. <o:p></o:p>
As you well know, this highway is an extremely rugged and dusty road where safety and courtesy is of the utmost importance. The actions of your drivers / members was deplorable and criminal; their attempt to force myself and other riders off the road shows the obvious contempt your members have for other vehicles in general and motorcyclists in particular. <o:p></o:p>
Due to the riders being spread out over the hundred miles of road, many of us thought that our encounters were isolated incidents. It was only after talking to other riders (weeks later) that we realized the vast majority of us were harassed and endangered by the actions of your drivers.<o:p></o:p>
I can assure you that had I known that these were not isolated incidents I would have immediately contacted the Alaska State Troopers and filed complaints against the drivers in your EXCEL caravan.
Additionally, I sincerely hope that the actions of your caravan drivers will not lead to a tragedy. If you would like to discuss this matter further please feel free to contact me at (907) xxx-xxxx (0800-1600) or at home (907) xxx-xxx.

    Thank you,

The letter looks pretty good. But I'm afraid I can't be more than an interested bystander as none of this happened to me, so I can't swear to anything. If it did I didn't realize it. When I left Dawson at about 1PM there might have been a mile of RVs waiting for the ferry. I got right on the ferry along with a couple more guys. The road angels and TKE were able to sweet talk their way on very soon afterward. I met a few RVs along the way but not too many. I met up with Tractor, Mama, and Chaos on the side of the road taking a break about 10 miles from Chicken. I'm thinking we got through before the real trouble started OR we were lucky and caught a break in the traffic.

The letter looks great, Frank-it's articulate and everything. I blew by at least 50 motorhomes and only felt in danger because of their ignorance. The only time I could pass was in the corners, the sharper the better because it was the only time they were on the correct side of the road. On the straights where it was "safe to pass" they all sped up and took the left side of the road. I especially appreciated the lecture by the second one back after my crash, I'm standing there with bike parts all over the road and the handlebars sideways and this woman is yapping at me about passing on a curve a couple miles back (I crashed while passing on a staight, washboard, motorhome left of center) Barb

Participation like what? WTF do you want?
    Lets review:
Stan, Steve, Vaughn --? Can you confirm for sure, with links, any of this information you claim to know?
Peeps waiting, you have no complaint.
    :nod

    WD makes very good points.
My goal would be to let the public know that it is not OK to pull this shit just because someone else got away with it. Or because your truck is bigger than the other guy's.
Asshat Kid: " Well, that's what Dad always did, it was funny . Boy, we sure taught them bikers a lesson".
I have little doubt that that many were screwing with you on purpose, I have had this done to me, on purpose, to many times. Most of the time it is someone that just sucks as a driver & never even looks or uses a turn signal. I almost hit a big pickup making a U-turn from the right lane last night. No signal, nothing, never even saw me. Idiot driver. Had I not been prepared for that move, I'd have bought it. It is most common that peeps turn right at that point there. Just another day riding a bike. :uhoh
It is not just about 'not pissing off those bikers'.
I say, start now while they may still be in the state. We can maybe pile on more later.
Did you guys report this to the cops yet. I could not find a link to make an online report to the AK State Troopers.
There is one for APD, but, needs to go to the state guys. http://www.muni.org/apd1/apd911.cfm

So, I just called the troopers a bit ago, they took a report, said a cop would call me back. Waiting---
    Dial 269-5511, press 1 for<strike> English</strike> oops, Troopers.
They did ask for descriptions of people & vehicles, & where. I told them between the border & Tok or Chicken, on the Taylor Hwy.
I did not say that it happened to me, but that peeps started talking later & found that this was not an isolated incident.
'FreightLiner/coach combo', what is that? You mean like a big motorhome/bus? Not pulling a big camper?
Anybody know what state the plates were?
Call, make a report. Those 2-up can both call. You did not know that the other has called, right? The more calls the better the response. I count 10, maybe 12 riders involved at different times.
K-Frank, good report. Did you send it? Wonder if it is going to the right person.
    :rolleyes

Hey, "Trooper Toll" just called me back. He is a rider too! :thumb
Sounds like he & friends run some dirt bikles, KLR's KTM's, etc. Said he used to use State Trooper Suzuki 250's to go into McCarthy.
I ask if he had any police buds in Canada. He said yes.

SORRY ABOUT THIS LATE POST BUT.....GOT IN A GOOD ONE OVER INTO WY, ID,AND MT. JUST TALKED TO FITE THE OTHER NIGHT AND HE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS LAND BARGE. I TRIED TO PASS THIS BUNCH JUST BEFORE CHICKEN. GOT BY ALL PRETTY CLEAN EXCEPT THIS TRACTOR PULLING SOMETHING RESEMBLING MY HOUSE. FIRST ATTEMPT ABORTED AFTER BEING WAVED AT WITH THE END OF THE TRAILER. SECOND ATTEMPT I WAS BY THE BACKEND OF THE TRUCK BEFORE HE NOTICED ME. HE LOOKED AT ME IN THE MIRROR (I ALWAYS LOOK AT THEM IN THEIR MIRROR TO MAKE SURE THEY SEE ME) THIS TIME WAS INTENTIONAL I GUARANTEE, AS HE SLOWLY CROWDED ME TO THE LEFT. I GASSED IT TO GET BY AS SAFLY AS I COULD. I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THEIR GANG OR MISSION. THEY PULLED OFF BEHIND ME INTO THE LOWER CHICKEN SUBDIVISION. I THOUGHT IT BEST NOT TO CONFRONT THE DICK (SORRY DICK) IN THE FRAME OF MIND I WAS IN.
YA' WANT I SHOULD ROUGH HIM UP?!

Yes, I do remember the Excell rig and did have a similar experiance with it. I will talk to fugwi this weekend at Westfest and see what he remembers. I to thouhgt it was an issolated occurance. Obviosly a wrong assumption. There were some other instances, but the little trailers were trying to miss holes and not being rude.

I to am willing to daft aproipriate nasty grams. :deal

    Please make it so.

I have sent a letter already. Sent it to every address in the company and the club list as well. No response, so I am going to send it again, and again, and again until they get their lazy fanny off the porn sites and deal with this A'hole publicly!

I would ask the same action from every one whom is willing to protect us all from this "known threat" whether or not you were directly effected.

"I didn't have any trouble" isn't going to cut it with the guy who is run off the road by this devil. :ace

I can't help myself from commenting on this RV caravan “Mad Max” lead driver situation. I do a Dawson trip 2 or 3 times a year, but I usually don't travel at the hours most pack RVers do, so fortunately I haven't experienced what some of you have. I have a couple of hopefully constructive suggestions for those that have, however.

Write a polite, to the point, non-threatening letter, like the excellent one kodiakfrank wrote. Then rather than emailing it, snail mail it by certified mail with signature confirmation to the corporate address of record of the organization. Make sure your address, and the address of the recipient are on the actual letter, then photocopy it with the certified letter form (they have preprinted numbers on them) on the same photocopy. The legal consul or loss prevention officer will no doubt end up with the letter. They will likely be able to figure out, all on their own, what the legal ramifications to the organization will be if an injury or death is caused by this driver AFTER they have been demonstrably notified of his practices.

Because this information could affect the person's or organization's reputation, DON'T overstate the facts. It doesn't hurt to offer some constructive suggestions or observations in the letter, maybe something like reminding them that Alaska law requires a vehicle to pullover if it is impeding 5 or more vehicles behind it. Maybe also point out that because their caravan consists of likely unprofessional drivers, driving commercial sized vehicles over an unfamiliar twisty, narrow, gravel road with steep drop offs, its understandable that they drive considerably slower than other traffic. Since these caravans typically all have radio communication between themselves, maybe suggest the caravan pull over and stop when faster traffic approaches the caravan from behind.

Anyway, its just a few thoughts. I imagine those people will be reading this thread via their favorite search engine before long, so it doesn't hurt to think twice about what you say :)

The following post is the last correspondence from the Excel group.

Linda, my gosh. Hope all is well with you. Mom said the recent
newsletter was a little challenging. Thank you so much for helping her
out. We were in Cancun. This guy is really pist. I wanted some guidance
on what we should do with this email. Do you want us to distribute just
for safety sake or what....really scary thanks so much. Jenn

    My letter which she is responding to is as follows;

    Linda,
You sound like a nice lady and I haven't been
honest with you for a few reasons.
    Here is why........

I was included in a motorcycle ride which we take
each and every year to Dawson City, YT. From Alaska and actually riders
    arrive
    from all over the world.

This happens to be the 15th year the ride has
been completed. The people who ride this ride have become my family.
    hence the
    fear for them.

    Allow me to explain,
This year the Excel group was in Dawson City,
heading out of town during the same day as us. There were many stories
    told by
my fellow riders, of a man driving a freightliner aggressively cutting
    off
riders, as they passed the slower less agile vehicles

It actually happened to me. I was riding with my
wife of 35 years when this jerk cut us off, passing legally and safely.
    He
continued left across the road closing the opening of the road. I was
    able to
out accelerate him and passed as he was completely shutting off the
path. Inches were left for us when the entire lane was open when we
    began the pass.

There were 10 or more riders which had the same
occurrence, some twice as they had stopped and re-passed. One friend
    tells the
story of his teenage son, he was almost hit by this jerk. When the now
angry father attempted to protect his son, Steve flipped him off.

Yes it was Steve Benton as far as we now
    believe

I can tell you there will be lots of attitudes
about this for a while as our group is strong. And
    Worldwide.

We would like a picture of Steve so we can
positively identify him. I don't want him blamed if it isn't
    he.

You see his actions are and were illegal. His
actions endangered many. He is still driving through America and still
    driving
aggressively as far as we know since he is still on the road. This has
    to be
stopped and he needs to apologize on Excel's website as soon as
    possible.

We also know Mr. and Mrs. Petersen are along with
this group as well as Curtis Petersen. We know this through a person
    (group
affiliated) who rode the bus into Denali National Park along with the
    group.
Steve was aggressive, nasty and demanding, which made my friend very
uncomfortable and unwelcome. My friend was the odd man out, as Excel
    had 52 of
the 53 seats paid for. It just so happens my friend spent the entire
    time angry
and retaliating in return for the disrespect afforded him at the
    beginning of
the Denali bus ride by Steve. It cost them all during the ride, which
    should
have been about the beauty instead of the anger applied thickly by
    Steve.

I as an Alaskan, I welcome the
motorcoaches, 5th wheelers, as well as all the RV'ers
    visiting.
We have troubles just like anywhere else. These
troubles are usually singular, not company connected or with the sheer
    numbers
included in the tour. This issue is huge through Excel's inclusion.

    Now the real issue.
There are many who will now begin sending letters
and reports to police and to you and your company. These reports and
    letters can
be used for all whom may need them, but they will come.

My request beyond a picture of Steve is an apology
to all of the motorcycle riders effected on your website as soon as
    possible
with some plan explained to rectify this very dangerous situation which
    we all
    believe is still going on.

Contact me through this email address.

You never, as you implied, posted any of this info, - addys, phone #'s, so on, for others here to use. We don't know you are writing to.
So, you and your passenger both made a report to the cops, right?
Did anyone? I did, but since I was not directly involved, & maybe the only report, that ain't gonna carry any weight.
Seems a little late for the Ak troopers to do anything about it now, as they have probably left the state. That was the best hammer we had.
I wouldn't count on the fox to guard the hen house. Excel group can just dismiss this as a couple of, far from their home base, disgruntled 'biker trash', BFD. Starting to look like a dead issue now.

Have you checked your PM's. Like a while back (7-20- 07) you were sent all of the information. Maybe you should check there before attempting to slam me? Just sayin!
I wasn't going to notify the cops, I thought I said that as well. Post #147.
Don't trust them, won't ask them for help until I can't fix it myself. So far in my life, I am doing well without them. As far as this I could care less if anyone wants to call them, I however will not.

    Appology accepted.....
