He'll probably get a mention in the Hillston Spectator too. Lol.

    Now we know:

    "
07:40 : Bikes: another penalty for Gonçalves
Finally, for Paulo Gonçalves the Dakar 2016 has been one of false hopes and disappointments. Re-integrated into the race the day before yesterday due to the premature finish of the stage, the official Honda leader, thanks to this providential helping hand, held on to third place in the general standings. After a good special yesterday (fourth, 6 minutes behind the day’s winner) he even gained time over his nearest pursuer in the general standings. Unfortunately for him, the race officials handed out a new fifty minute penalty, almost surely killing his hopes of a podium finish in Rosario. Only allowed to stop 15 minutes at CP2 on the stage 9 special, the Portuguese rider spent more than one hour there trying to repair the hole in the radiator of his Honda "

TP finished at WP 7 is that to make up for his extra distance on the hot day?

    Hard to understand

But he seems to have been given 2nd place in the stage - 18 secs off Meo

And out in front overall by 35:23

15:40 : Bikes: the special is stopped at CP2!
The exceedingly difficult weather conditions caused by the extreme heat and the large number of riders in difficulty means that, for obvious safety reasons, the special has been halted at CP2 (after 243 km). However, the car and truck races will continue until the end of the special."

    This is just getting confusing.

Go you good thing.......a mention on Triple M yesterday is all l've heard in the media in regards to TP's achievement in leading thus far. Think back a few years ago to Cadell in the Tour De France and what it did for cycling here.

Maybe its time for different classes like most other sports?? Look at it as Toby leading the Alien class by going the full distance and have the human class cut-off at half-way??
At Erzburg you are out if you are X number of minutes behind but at Dakar pushing in the heat has a real chance of ending lives for those not in contention!

TP almost got a guernsey on last night's Canberra ABC news

Pipped at the post by a baby ring-tailed lemur, reunited with its parents in the Canberra zoo after a spell of vet care

Gripping stuff, and unfortunate timing for Tobe

    Maybe tonight ...

Maybe time to quit blaming the organizers of the Dakar for stopping the stages when the real blame should go to the riders not fit enough to finish!! Coma has said that the helicoptors can not safely cover the course for the Aliens because they are babysitting the unfit majority! Their Duty of Care extends to all the riders!

Why run an event like this in the full heat of summer?
Call me Mulder but is it because the organiser wanted a cash flow for the European winter off season?
Would the organiser of the finke desert race run it in mid summer?
