That little ASO poet lets a lot of idiotic nonsense loose. This is stage 2 and there's a lot more to come and no one knows what's behind the next dune. :fpalm

Mid-way on this stage we have this scenario, with a few WPMs and a WPS. If they don't pass through the small (red) circle, they "miss" the waypoint. For the WPMs, the arrow pops up when they enter the large circle. The arrow points to the center, guiding them in until they get to the small circle, when the GPS validates they got there and they can proceed to the next point. When there s a lot of HP (as in all the stages this year), this is the way it goes.

@HogWild Can you help us with the nomenclature: If WPM is waypoint masked, what is WPS? Waypoint Small? haha

If you look at the bubbles, Toby has been following Walkner the entire stage.

wps --> s stands for safety. Just from that picture, and without any other information, I'd guess they are pointing out the proximity to the surf? Don't know, there could be a huge ditch right there going into the water, or a huge rock, or maybe godzilla sun bathes there. regardless, they are pointing out a safety issue.

I'm also sure there is more to it, that more experienced folks could shed light on.

Day two and Robby's Super-Duper SCORE Textron is on pace with the other leading SXS at 4 hours, 9 minutes for the special.

Following ... not really. Toby is 3 minutes+ behind Walkner. They may be at the same pace threw the last few WPs but they are not riding wheel to wheel. I doubt Toby can physically see his team mate 3 minutes ahead.

Don't look at the bubbles, do the math from the live tracker in relation to start times of each rider and intervals at WPs. That will tell you how physically close one rider is to the other on the terrain.

WPS per the FIM guidelines is "Safety", but ASO seems to use them for other purposes. The inner radius for WPS is supposed to be 90 meters and WPS 200 meters. I think they use WPS when they want to keep or force competitors into a tighter spot. This is from the FIM amended regulation. I don't think they are following this exactly.

I've been a fan of her's from her first Dakar. And I agree. While she has the skills in both riding and nav, she lacks the self preservation off switch.

what's the technical difference that Robby and his teammates are running in the cars category? they look like SXS's to me.

As already suggested by a couple of inmates - I have reasonable coverage here in China - no FB and some video links are down, but small price to pay.......

The SBS coverage is on "record" home on Oz, so I'll binge on that when I get home.
