Brilliant video. Turned to my wife and told her if I see another old @ comes available somewhere nearby, I'm buying it. My favourite bike, and i still regret selling it.
Had a Tender too, and it was nice too. Maybe I'll look for the modern versions and see what they are like.

Bloody autocorrect, Tender is meant to be Tenere. Though it reminded me how sore my butt would get on long rides on the AT. The Yamaha had a better stock seat imho.

Sotheby's sale estimate for a genuine Dakar DR Big, would be amusing to see.

Here is the first of 3 KTM 525 EXC rally bikes we made in my tiny San Francisco garage in the fall of 2005. 2 of them finished the 2006 Dakar under Jonah Street and Mike Krynock. This is right after the first time I rode it up and down my block. Not yet finished, as you can see. (That F350 behind the bike did 5 or so Dakars as a support truck.)

@lastplace: I bought that bike, and the other one that survived, and made more of a travel bike out of it. Now they both belong to @gaspipe.

Those early '80's Dakar bikes are just the coolest. I'm currently building a 1983 Honda XL600 Paris Dakar and bringing it over to Baja to race the NORRA 1000 in April. IMG_4608.JPG
