I wonder if Dakar bikes are like music- we love the ones that we saw during our formative years? For me, the ones I treasure most are the 690/450rfr that I coveted but could not get my hands on when I raced. I bought one since and love it for exploring in CO.

I think you're correct. I'm older so this is the one I wanted.

Is it this one?(Top picture. Bottom is mine)

And I agree being a child of the 80s...those bikes especially the 600 Honda are my favorite Dakar bikes. I turned my 83 600r into a slight clone.

If you know of any 690 or 450 RFR’s that may come up for sale in the US please send me a PM with info.

Having Poskitt build my dream bike would mean I would have to liquidate all bikes in the garage. Still a consideration.

Saw that posted day one. If I was looking for a 660 RFR I would have jumped all over that one.

I was on that Dakar (in a car though) but my great friend John Deacon was racing with Jimmy Lewis and was it Saint? Or Magnaldi? On the BMW team. He let me take his bike for a blast in the dunes on the rest day......an awesome bike.
