HAHAHA I so resemble these remarks :-) Would you care to share your lodging choices? That way when Jack hauls me out there next year, I can have options :-)
    Thanks!!!!!

    Hey Sleddog,

Thanks for the efforts you've put in here. I visited the Black Hills a couple months ago, and fell in love. I was under time constraints, but a revisit is on the list and I will make good use of your tracks when the opportunity arises.

I took the macro-tour out of necessity, can't wait to do the micro-tour!

So much to see, so little time.....

    Scott

Just watched the video and it was incredible! Putting it on the list for 2018 (2017 is already fully booked :D)
Went to try and download the tracks and it just pulled up a bunch of text. Is this normal? Normally the tracks are a GPX that I can just load up.

Thank you Sleddog for all the efforts you put into this amazing route!

Thanks guys but, Blasterbill is the creator of the DakAL.....I've just been fortunate to have ridden it a bunch.

To be clear the Trans South Dakota Adventure Trail (TSDAT) is not the same as the DakAL. The TSDAT is an east-west ride across South Dakota. The DakAL is a north-south loop through the Black Hills area in SD.

Monday we rode from South Sioux City, Nebraska via gravel to Yankton, where we picked up the official trail. We over-nighted at Fort Randal Indian Casino (just east of Pickstown, SD).
Tuesday we made it to Murdo (Super 8), Wednesday to Wall (Super 8), and Thursday brought us all the way to Custer (Comfort Inn).
The only bottleneck we experienced was Custer, but that's because we didn't make reservations until a month before our trip; our fault.
It worked out well for us, as we're used to being spoiled with AC, showers, fresh linen, etc. Prices weren't too bad either, except like i said Custer.
    Best of luck,

    LaDue

Not much info yet. the seasonal trails don't open for another 3 days. We rode 127 miles today (not on the DakAL route but scouting new routes for the Dakota 600) and had wonderful conditions. There are still 6 opening left for the July Dakota 600. www.dakota 600.com

Hey Bill, some of the guys in our group were wondering what the beer selections were like in some of the towns that we'll be passing through....they are heavy IPA drinkers from various parts of the country and they were considering bringing some vacuum sealed growlers to fill up with at our gas stops to have something tasty at the end of the day....pending they did have some kind of IPA selection and not just the maintenance type beers (Bud/Coors/Miller Light)....HA.....ok, digressed a little from the travel conditions.

This does look like fun! I'm going to carve out some time to ride this route, probably in 2018. Thanks Blasterbill for the work!

I'm a Coors Light drinker (seriously) but doing a little searching, there are two breweries in Hill City which is on the route: Miner Brewing Company and Sick N Twisted Brewing.

We are making our second attempt in June. Any new GPS tracks? Actually, where do I find the tracks again? Hoping for less rain this year!

Beer? There are a few IPA drinkers in SD.

We'll be there the first week of June...hoping for minimal rain but I guess that makes it part of the adventure...my group is planning for the worst due to June being the wettest month of the year.

I'm in a group of six doing it the week of June 12th. That was a great report and I'm sure hoping we don't get rain like that! Weather looks cool and wet for the next 10 days. Here's hoping for drier conditions. I suspect we won't even start the sections without a gravel base if it's that bad. Too many horror stories and it's hard on the trail.

Tracks are on the first page of this thread. We plan to follow the loop as planned with an exception of a diversion to Devils Tower.

Hope everyone posts what they find for conditions in the next month.
