Selling (another) VStrom already? That didnt take long
I think it’s time to get back to my roots. The woods, the trails, the adventures!
Last fall some friends of mine and I set off in the worst weather I’ve rode in for a long time. 54 degrees, steady mist, and pea soup fog. Tried to take them to the Worlds Edge but the views were non existent due to weather. Kept on going to Looking Glass Falls and Brevard where we stop for a delicious lunch and amazingly it was sunshine and blue sky there. Back into the fog and mist on the way home though. Amazing how much the mountains affect the weather patterns.
Awesome Nate! hope to see your ride reports again....
I enjoy reading about your rides. Love your back yard.
As many of you know we've had rain for what seems like forever. Had heard about Wilson Creek and Mortimer getting hammered and decided to go explore Sunday morning knowing the water had went down for now. I was astonished at what I saw. Truly a landscape change. Bruce's trout pond has been completely washed out, the footbridge got washed down the way, and the road is all washed out. Thankfully everyone was safe and uninjured.
What started as a damp foggy day ended up turning beautiful for a few hours. Until I got soaked on the way home.
The gorge was flowing tremoundsly. The noise was crazy.
The power of water is crazy.
Completely new terrain now.
Right before you get to the campground and the Old Country Store.
Footbridge washed out.
Did some more exploration yesterday. Went up Brown Mountain Beach Road and took Craig Creek back to 181. Headed up 181, ate at Christas Country Café then branched off top of 181 to Pineola Road. About 1/4 way down I took FR58 to see where it led. It leads to a dead end that says NO Trespassing so I turned around and kept going down the mountain where I got to 90 and ventured into Edgemont to see the destruction. The water came through there with some force. Headed back down through Wilson Creek (where a lot of road repairs had already been done) and onto Playmore Beach Road then meandered on home. Good day and no rain.
Overlook on 181 with the fog lifting.
Nice little waterfall on FR58
Playmore Beach Road. You can see how high the water was.
WOW. And to think, I was just camping there about 3 weeks ago!
Been a long time since I’ve posted but been getting some good rides in. This past weekend I looked at a waterfall,
With good friends.
Then we went up the mountain more
and stood on a cliff.
Good to see this thread revived
@MountainNate Where was that cliff? Hike or ride? Any camping nearby?
It’s on Skyuka Road/ White Oak Mountain Road near Columbus, NC. Its a pulloff spot along the road. It’s all private land so there’s no camping unfortunately.
Wow. Long time no post. Sold my Triumph and bought this team orange thing. Gonna see how it does.
Oooooooh Pretty. Hope you enjoy it.
@MountainNate How is that BEAST treating you? I hear those things are too much power (I suppose there is such a thing)
It’s pretty insane actually. Let a friend ride it who rides an MT10 and he said about the duke “there ain’t no reason someone needs that much power.” I turned the TC up and anti wheelie on and he still had a hard time keeping the front wheel down.
Let’s see. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted but I’m going to try and get back into it. Took my new to me SuperDuke R for some back road exploring back in September. I spends nice winter days exploring new roads that I can link with other roads come spring/summer time. Caught the sunset on this particular day. Makes me heart N.C. more.
