Like Rickj and others have stated, your writing style is great. In post #216, you had me feeling for you as I've experienced the same "Dang, my trip is almost over" sentiments. Had that on all three of my Alaska trips. Anyway, thanks for posting up while enjoying your trip. That can be a chore but it was sure appreciated by those of us living vicariously through you. I look forward to your next trip. Well, I'm really looking forward to my next trip!:D Thanks, AllSeasonRider.

Yeah, I've been bike shopping, too... I think a new 690 would do South America quite nicely.

The 690 enduro model year 2019 is the tits. Get a custom seat made.

Awesome report! And to do it by yourself is pretty heavy duty stuff. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say AllSeasonRider has some mad moto skillz.:clap

I tend to just go with the "blast and pray" technique. Eyes closed... less stressful that way.

Weren't you talking about selling yours after your AK trip?

I think a '19 690 with a rally fairing, extra fuel and cruise control would be the ticket.

Didn't want to admit this cuz it's so fanboyish, but after reading this one last week I actually did head toward you Coast to Coast 2015 RR and dug that one, too. :thumbup

Cool to read your original impressions of LA in that 2015 report, as well, given where those impressions clearly led.

First impressions for LA were actually in my 2010 Coast to Coast trip :D

    Yes, I'm selling Kate....but not bike-related issues.

My adventure touring now consists of two wheels, no gasoline engine. Less moto stuff. Less noise.

I know 690s very well. I love this one. She still purrs at 15k miles.
It's just time for me to travel differently.

I'm going the other way. After trying bike touring, I learned that there are areas of the country that are stupid hot, stupid humid, and stupid steep. Two of the three and I'd have been good. All three almost put me in the hospital.

I'm looking at a moto-touring option. Yes, I'll travel faster and perhaps see a little less, but I know I can do it and if I slow down and stop more, I can still see most of what I want to see.

    Good luck. Be safe.

I hear you. Not sure what kind of cycling you're into, but I also mountain bike. As such, the idea of true enduro style riding on a dirt bike doesn't appeal to me - I'd rather pedal if I'm doing single track. The quiet is nice, and I'm blessed with the quality of trails I've got right out my front door.

You parked your big bike in front of the washing machine to threaten it to stay off dirty roads or else?

Nice addition. More things for your wife to throw the laundry on to dry.
