You did just fine wrangling the big girl up and down Chloride a couple of years ago. You should be okay on Lippincott.

    Hey Joel,

I’ve got a positive update. The surgery on 4/15 went well. Doc did one long incision for the plate to repair fibula and reattach ligaments. He only had to fix the outside of the ankle as the inside looked perfect and responded to his tests well. I got two nerve blocks which kept my leg numb until Saturday morning. Pain ranges from not bad to this sucks but isn’t as bad as I anticipated most of the time. 4/30 is my post op and I’ll “post up” some pictures of my scar and hardware. Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes.

Mikey. Happy to hear from you and it sounds like you're on your way to getting better.

    Hoping for your quick recovery.

Hi Joel :wave I'm one of those slackers. Thanks for encouraging me to show up this year. I enjoyed my time there even though things didn't work out the way I expected.

Thanks to Joel for all the work at hosting this year after year.
Thanks Matt, Finn, Marty and others that I can't remember the names for helping me with my mess up. You're all such wonderful folks.
Thanks Sue, for spending the day with me, it was good to get to know you.

Making a last-minute decision to attend the campout I brought an untested new to me bike. I know better and so I was a bit embarrassed when things didn't work out so well.....

For me, just being in Death Valley is always a treat and it's even better with a motorcycle.

After I arrived I discovered I didn't have my key. I remembered putting it in my pocket after loading the bike on the trailer so why didn't I have it? It took a bit then I remembered. It was pouring down rain while I was loading up and I got soaked. Right before I left I changed into dry clothes. My key was in my wet jeans pocket at home. Grrrrrr

There are some super helpful people at the nOObs rally and they worked at getting the bike hot-wired for me. Matt even found a switch to use for turning it off.

After the bike was running Sue and I were headed to Beatty for lunch then we were going to ride Titus. Mary decided to follow us for a bit.

For some reason, my bike spit and sputtered as I crested a hill and leaning into a curve and died. Yikes.

Marty was behind me so he stopped to assist. After a few minutes it started and was running again. We continued on until it did it again. I thought I had plenty of fuel but Marty turned the petcock to reserve anyway. That worked, and we were going again.

Marty split off after I filled my tank at Stovepipe Wells, while Sue and I headed to Beatty.

The bike was running but it still spit and sputtered a few times even after filling it with fuel. At that point I wasn't confident with it's dependability so Sue and I opted to return to camp rather than doing Titus. I was super disappointed but I didn't want to have my bike stall out in Titus Canyon area. Better safe than sorry.

Riding back we stopped for a few minutes to watch a dust devil playing in the dunes.

Back at camp I was able to watch the Jimmy Lewis riding demo. He had a couple willing volunteers to help him.

@Ladybug thanks for posting your ride report. glad to see you're still able to enjoy the little bit of riding you did. no shortage of riders who come to the rally and actually enjoy helping. who else would love noobs?

did you know what was the issue? bad gas? anyway, hope the TW is running like a top.
