One of the best Titus Canyon experiences when it's as smooth as it is currently is to turn off your motor and coast your bike. There is enough grade to maintain a pretty good pace and you can truly gain a completely different perspective of the place.

Funny story regarding pace while coasting ... last time we did the coast trick we passed 2 different big adventure bike tour groups. When the lead group caught up to where we had pulled over to relax, the ride leader starting yelling at us about how irresponsible we were by not running our motors and not alerting them to our pass. Apparently one of his French tourist riders was so surprised by our appearance going by it caused him to grab enough front brake that he washed out the front and caused a 5 bike pile up. :fpalm

I love engine off coasting :-)
Even do it in my pickup, though I have heard it's illegal.

Good thing a Chevy Volt club wasn`t having a rally through there!

Coasting down Titus is great fun. You can go a long way.
Friend and I coasted for almost a day down Dollarhide Summit in Idaho.
I was on a tw200 and turns out parts don’t get lubed unless engine is running, never heard of that before and had no problems. Had a blast racing and if you did slow to almost nothing, started engine for just 2 shifts around trees or corner so other person couldn’t see lights go on when key turned on, what fun!
Electric cars are strange to drive.

Tuna canyon in Malibu is a nice downhill coast. It’s also one way so no oncoming traffic. It’s cool only hearing the vents in the brake rotors whizzing by.

    Ok coasting bastards!

I was going to go to Death Valley tomorrow but rain is forecast and I don't want to deal with it.

    Fair weather rider and all.

Any poor saps going out there this weekend?

You're right that the oil pump isn't pumping oil but then again, the transmission is doing zero work so there is no issue at all. The bottom of the gears are likely turning in the oil that has settled in the bottom of the case providing more than enough lubrication.

If you hit the northern end of Beatty road doing about 90 mph, you can coast all the way Beatty Junction, but you have to tuck in a few of the humps near the end are very wobbly.

Or so I've been told :deal

Never heard of Corkscrew Canyon. :dunno

Been to Hole in the Wall. Nothing technical until the very end of the road, well after the hole in the wall. Mostly hardpack and gravel.

There is Corkscrew Peak(driven past a million times) and there is Corkscrew Mine. Am interested in the mine. Found it on the map and it looks like it may be possible to drive near it. Off of 20 Mule Team Road.

I'm in the Stovepipe Campground if anyone needs a beer or something. Can't miss the blue/silver Peterbilt.
