    just out of curiosity...

i was trying to understand the ktm engine codes and found nothing about their meaning (at least with the lc4 and contemporary models)...

so lets post the details of the machines at hand so we can build a database and collectively decipher them!

    i will start with these:

2018, husqvarna, 701, enduro, EU model
    8-766*55xxx*

2019, ktm, 690, enduro, EU model
    9-768*06xxx*

2018, ktm, 690, enduro, USA model
    8-760*11xxx*

    so i guess:
the first digit corresponds to the model year of the motorcycle

the second, third and fourth to the engine version
    until now:
768 appears to be the 693cc, dual balancer, twin spark, quickshifter engine
766 appears to be the 693cc, dual balancer, twin spark, NON quickshifter engine
760 appears to be the 690cc, single balancer, twin spark, NON quickshifter engine

the fifth to ninth, is the serial number

    another two:

2019, ktm, 690, SMC, US model
    9-768*10xxx*

2019, ktm, 690, SMC, US model
    9-768*08xxx*

Interesting thread, thank you for that azur.

I can add these here to help.

    • 765 refers to the old 654 cc single spark engine, the first 690s. 63 bhp.
I have looked at 4 of these from friends nearby, all from 2008 to 2011.

8 stands for 2008 (one is a 2008 ENDURO, the other one a 2008 SMC)
    0 stands for 2010 (690 ENDURO R)
    1 stands for 2011 (SMC)

So looks like it follows the same rules as what you've already deciphered on your side.

    • A spare 690cc DUKE R engine I have (first true 690 cc engine in single spark with 70 bhp back in 2010 / 2011, before the 2012/2013 SMC R / ENDURO R) is marked 753.
    Nota bene: 2012 / 2013 SMC R are marked 753 as well.

    • 2014 to 2017 SMC R (690cc twin spark) are marked 760.

So, as far as we know...

    Euro 3 engines:

    - 654 cc single spark, 63 bhp ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 765
    - True 690cc engines (1st ones, single spark, either 70 bhp in the DUKE R or 67 bhp in the later SMC R + ENDURO R models -------------> 753
    - Twin spark 690 cc engines ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 760

    Euro 4 engines:

    - First ones without quickshifter etc -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 766
    - Later ones with quickshifter etc ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 768
