The TPAT stuff I am testing starts about 30 miles NE of weedville, then heads down to the PA/MD border in the Michaux State Forrest (east of Chambersburg). I have 2 to 3 days of riding in that section.

I will be following the route as shown on my link on the TPAT thread. The western side was laid out by "community input". I am sure it will be nice, I just want to test ride it.

I know you have asked me to color code my route, but there are no hero sections. My buddy could ride all of it on his BMW R1200S (with proper tires, and it's not raining :) )

    Here is a pretty picture.

The map posted by "inthenew" looks like it goes through Port Jervis, and crosses the Hudson at the Catskill bridge. Here is an alternate route that goes through some higher elevations and less populated areas.

    My reasoning
    1. The state road sections have to include Rt 10 at the Cannonsville Reservoir, and Rt 30 at the Pepacton Reservoir.
    2. The Ulster county roads 42 and 47 trisecting the Catskills are a must.
    3. The Catskill Escarpment should be exited by the most spectacular route, Platte Cove Road.
    4. For primitive dirt sections, we need the back river road south of Lordsville and Rock Rift Mountain Road.
    5. For maintained dirt, we need Mary Smith Road, Shin Creek and Cross Mountain Road.

This route meanders but I really like it, for me the best roads are the ones that have to follow some natural feature like a river, a hollow or a hill. This is nice combination of twisty roads, dirt and scenic views.

These are some sections from the paved portion that I took a few years ago.

    Black track - blacktop
20 Red tracks - maintained dirt
2 Green tracks - two track non graded dirt
20 Blue tracks - paved Scenic sections

Looks like fun. Seeing as how the Pine Barrens ride has been cancelled this weekend, we're all dressed up with no place to go. Care to upload a .gpx of this route? :evil

CannonsvilleRider - Big thanks for your work above. I rode portions of your TetCatskillsAlt and CatGerrymander this past weekend, with a camp stop near Delhi. Excellent weekend for it, the dirt roads were perfect and the paved sections empty too!

Has anyone ridden those lately and can speak to whether they're passable (snow, mud etc.)

Thanks for posting these routes CvilleRider. I just moved to Hamden and I am trying them out on my DRz. So far they rock and it is keeping my camera busy. Keep them coming, especially the dirt ones. :clap

Thanks cannonsville rider! Great loops you've put together, really enjoyed a full day connecting them last weekend. Unexpectedly meeting you at the top of Mary Smith Hill Rd at the end of the day was a nice surprise. Also a hello to meeting GeorgeT in Walton.

From NYC and back starting the loops from Roscoe, NY.
    505 miles, 13 hours, 5 fill-ups, 36mpg avg and lots of dirt.

I've overlayed your six green loops with a quick and dirty way to connect them. Looking forward to filling in the blanks and more "Town Maintenance Ends" signs.

I am glad you enjoyed visiting Delaware County! It was a pleasure to meet you on Mary Smith Hill.

Lunches at the Rainbow Lodge are good, dinners are better... I could be accused of bias though, I am dating one of the waitresses.

If you like to view wildlife, the Rainbow is a good choice. You can feed the monster sized namesake trout in the pond, and on summer evenings you are have about a 70% chance of seeing a bear, a 10% chance of seeing an Eagle, a 50% chance of feeding goslings.

I found your choice of locations for photography interesting. Most of them would have been in my top ten, except for the trucks. I have always considered old vehicles along the roadside to be junk that was a just a bit of a black eye for the area. I find it ironic that the younger generation looks at them as historical artifacts. I apparently have suppressed the memory of viewing them as junk because I don't recall where they are. Readburn Road, maybe?

You were fortunate to catch the buffalo on East Brook Road, the original loop jogged south mostly because they were there, but they often aren't visible from the road. Last August, a group at the BK.RD.Run in Shinhopple went through and never saw them.

All of my tracks are now color coded and packed into a MapViewer at this URL

    http://108.161.133.196/CatskillRides.jar

You will need Java, the viewer is a signed jar file that is executable. It supports zoom via the slider or a mouse scroll wheel, dragging with a mouse, and selection of tracks via buttons on the bottom pane. The tracks are color coded red=dirt, blue=scenic, green=two track, black = blacktop

So with a couple of hours to spend on a nice evening around Sidney, I decided to look at your viewer before heading out, but I didn't download any tracks because I had left the GPS on the bike, which was in the trailer.

Although I think I didn't ride most of what you had posted, I thank you for sharing it, as it helped encourage me to get out there. I did manage to find (mostly by luck, I think) a bunch of well-maintained seasonal roads as well as one road that went from somewhat maintained to not so maintained before becoming rarely traveled and a bit overgrown for about a tenth of a mile. If you happen to be around here again, check out Hutchinson Hill Road between Lockwood Hill Road and Rogers Hollow Road. I'd recommend doing it in that direction so as to pop out through a backyard rather than enter through one, but YMMV. I have no idea if anyone other than my GPS thinks it actually is a road, but it was the first one around here I found that probably should have been marked "track" but wasn't.

Nice find! That road is across the county line so my usual method of checking to see if it is a recognized road on the Delaware County tax map doesn't work.
Given that it has the same name (Hutchinson Hill Road) at both ends, it sounds like it was a real road at one time. Since I am not sure of it's legality, I am going to add that segment to the viewer in the Other tab as two dead ends and let individual riders make the decision on whether to connect them.

i grew up in sidney. growing up my bestfriend lived on hutchinson hill and as a kid we always got our christmas tree at the end of the road, as far as i remember it was never connected to the mt upton end of the road but its been a few years since i've been up there. this spring i'll take a ride over and see if its opened up again because i do believe the christmas tree farm is closed now. cannonsvillerider, thanks again for these awesome maps! :clap
