    Regarding the WaltonToEssex.gpx route, how much of it is dirt and is it legal in ADK region?

    You can visualize the dirt roads at this link http://www.advcatskills.org/Maps/?NorthToEssex
    Red = best dirt
    Orange = plain dirt
    Green = primitive dirt, not great for big bikes when wet

    It was all legal the last time I rode it, but the two red sections in the ADK region are seasonal roads with closed gates for much of the winter and spring. The two green sections are abandoned roads, the one east of North Blenheim is signed as closed at the top and "travel at your own risk" at the bottom. The green track in Burnt-Rossman state forest is an abandoned road that is in pretty bad shape and best avoided early in the season.

    This track was one of my early attempts, I think the UDCATDAK1000 is much better.

    I'm new to GPS tracks and was able to download all but one to my Garmin Montana via Basecamp. I downloaded the UDCATDAK1000 into basecamp and it showed the full track. When I imported it to the Montana and looked at the map it had cut the track down to a third. The rest didn't transfer. Does anyone have any idea why that would happen and how it can be corrected. I am hoping to ride that route this spring. And a big Thank You to CannonsvilleRider for the tracks!!!

    I don't have a Garmin Montana, but my guess would be that there are too many points. You can split a large track into many smaller tracks in Basecamp, you can also filter a track to reduce the number of points.

    Filtering seems to have worked. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

    It might be a good idea to export the filtered track and import both the filtered track and the original in Google Earth to see how much it rounded the corners off. I have failed to do that and and actually been unable to follow the track. I would check the red and green tracks in particular as there are places where the legal forest road looks like a driveway and the private quarry road next to it looks like a public highway.

    When I downloaded the UDAK track to basecamp, I tried both the GPX and the KML and both transfered as tracks only, no routes, and the tracks are split into about 50 sections each labeled with a number, but the corresponding number doesnt line up with the next track. For instance, "Scenic 100" might be up by lake placid, but "scenic 101" is smack dab in the catskills. I'm trying to build a route.

    Any ideas?

    Yes, download the file UDCATDAK10001.kml file rather than the UDCATDAK1000.kml file.
    The name.gpx and name.kml files are broken into segments so they can be colorcoded by the type of road and Basecomp resorts them by name.

    The name1.kml file is a single segment so it can't get resorted, so it's much easier to convert to a route.

    You should be able to rename each section while still in basecamp.
    UDAK1, UDAK2, UDAK3, Etc...

    I might be interested in getting in on that ride too, if the timing is right...

    Heading up from PA this weekend to hit some of the roads and trails out of Downsville/Peaceful valley. We're running up 402 and forest roads from Marshall's creek to pick up UDCAT near Lackawaxen then head to Hancock, then over to Peaceful Valley.

    Does anyone know if the unmaintained dirt road just north of 84 near Lords Valley that goes around the north side of Shohola lake goes through up to route 6? Does it cross the little feeder stream to shohola creek?
