I have a few days off coming up and plan to ride to Denver. My son is at UC Denver down town, so I plan to spend an evening with him. And ride some roads I haven't been on before.
Looking at my trusty DeLorme atlas, I found what looks to be a fun route.
74 West to Idledale, then north on 45 or Grapevine Road to 40 west, then Lookout mountain road past Buffalo Bill's grave down to Golden, Golden Gate Canyon road to 119, south past Central City 6 west, 40 east to 65 south Bergen Park to 103 north or west over Squaw pass up to Idaho Springs, then 6 east back to Denver. Sort of a convoluted figure 8.
I hope to hit this on a Friday morning. Looks like about 140 miles.
Any feedback on direction or alternate routes is appreciated. I'll probably be on the Buell and avoiding dirt.
    TIA

Most of the canyon roads heading up from the disaster on the front range are good. Deer Creek Canyon is great, but lots of pedal bikes. They tend to take up the road, and then the cages try to avoid them . That can leave little room for you on the road. A favorite "100 mile loop" is. Head up from Chatfeild Res. Up Deer creek, catch High Grade. Take (I think ) its Tamahawk rd or arrow head, or something like that. down to the highway that goes to the Platte River. there you can either head down the river, there is some gravel on that stretch, or head up through Foxton. When you hit the highway after Foxton, go to Deckers. Pretty good breakfast burrito or sandwich at Deckers. Then head down river and over past Sprucewood to Sedalia. there is a bit of gravel coming up from the river to Sprucewood, and one somewhat steep gravel hill. But Harleys and Gold wings do it all the time. Can be washboarded a bit at times. You might get some company if you post up what your plans are for a day ride.
