Sooooo.... I'm kinda intriged with the Royal Crapshoot Himalayan. It's got an atheistic that does it for me. Little old school mixed in with a big fat helping of chutney. But even if I could get one, I wouldn't as RE's are giant gutless POS. Yes, I'm knocking RE. If you have one and love it, that's great. I'm happy for you and hope that you never fall out of love with it...but I still think they suck ass, a lot of chutney filled ass. However, I admit that the Himalayan is a looker and I hope they do well. But.... I can do it better. A lot better and on the cheap with crap nobody wants. Sooo... this POS 91 DR650 showed up at my shop months ago and we've all been eyeballing it thinking of what sort of monstrosity we could build but pretty much everyone lost interest in it. Cuz it's ugly. Really, really ugly. Not to mention there's monster back fees due on it. And then I recalled a thread on here from years back where some metal minded butcher stuffed a GS500E into a early DR and it all seemed to jive pretty well. It's an air cooled, marvelously simple, tough little motor and the proportions are about right for hackage. 89-00 there's no smog crap on it. So why not jig up the DR frame (Locate the important shit), turn up a bargain GS500 and gut it. Build an entirely new frame and do it as a special construction? Yup, why the fuck not. Metal fenders, GS450E tank (4g) nice looking. 21/17 wheels. I can probably pull this off at around 375lbs'ish with 50 odd Hp. I think it'll be a fine beater for when my friends wet themselves wanting to go with me on an adventure and can't or won't man up and buy their own dual sport/Adventure bike.
