"Mini" ride report (small bikes). For the first time in a long time, I went riding in the dirt. I took my son with me on the trails south of St. Helen. The cool temps on Sunday, mixed with the wet sand from the down pours earlier that week made it a bit easier on him. But size 8 feet in size 7 riding boots got the best of him. Lunch break. Yes, that's an XR70 and an XR80 in the background. Old timer selfie: Later on we ran up on a HUGE black bear. I spotted it first as I crested a small hill. I stopped as soon as I saw it, pointing to it so my boy could see it. His eyes were big as pie plates. He'd never seen one before. He couldn't wait to tell his mom about it. Thankfully, he didn't mention the multiple occasions when he left his bike unintentionally (digger). On the ride back to the house, my son experienced another riding first -- riding through a downpour. No sense stopping...just power through it (albeit at around 20 mph). Sorry, no pics of the bear or the rain. The 40 mile loop was a lot of work for a first timer. I hope the riding bug takes hold with him. Since the kids are growing and have so many sports and activities going on, I rarely get to ride anymore. With any luck, I'll end up like DFRNT and the young jedi (PBR) -- father and son enjoying each other's company while riding through the woods of northern MI.
