Hey guys, it has been a while. Happy to see you all are still at it.
I picked up a new toy over the winter (2021 350 XCF-W) and am looking to get it street legal for some dual sport rides this year.
Getting the sicass lighting kit. What do you guys do for tires when trying to pass the inspection? Are there any good DOT tires? Any loop holes around the tire issue?

Congrats on new bike!....I see you have GLDS in your footer...for their weekend DS ride tracks (sand and loamy soils), I use the Kenda Trakmaster II in back and Shinko Fatty Cheater in front. Both DOT. Seem to do the job for me.
GLDS first club ride 5/22 Mancelona, hope to see you there.

Look who's back, back again. Jp's back, tell a friend.

Depends on the officer doing the inspection, the guy that did mine didn't even look at the tires. But better safe than sorry, I put on the Kenda Trackmaster II on the rear and Pirelli Scorpion Pro up front.

Can't wait to ride together again.

Thanks guys for the tire recommendations, I guess i will have to bite the bullet and change out my tires. I hate changing tires.
Steve, Did you just call the number for officer for inspection or do you know one?

Jonathan, I have a tire changing machine in eastern Jackson County if you can’t find someone closer with one.

This has been my experience also. I've plated 4 bikes over the years, and not once did they look at the tires.

I plated my CRF last summer, spent 200.00 on DOT tires only to have the sheriff's say yeah those tires look new, he never even acknowledged they had to be DOT rated, if I were you, I wouldn't bother with it unless you really need tires.

I think I am going to take my chances and try to get it passed without swapping out the tires. If they say I have to I might take you up on that. I go out to Somerset Township in Hillsdale county weekly. I wounder if I should call the sheriff in Hillsdale County to get my bike checked out, wounder if they would be more lenient than Oakland County. Or does it have to be where I have my primary residence?

Given the choice, I'd say Hillsdale. But it really comes down to the individual officer and how he feels that day.

I don't have a changing machine but I'm pretty efficient at changing tires, I don't mind lending a hand if needed. I'm in Rochester Hills.

And for the general group, I know I have posted in this thread a few times but I don't know if I've ever introduced myself. Wife and I moved to Rochester Hills right at a year ago. I came to Mi bikeless but have recently picked up an 09 CRF450X and got it plated. As of right now the plan is to ride mostly trails and the occasional MX track, and hopefully race a few harescrambles this year. So if anyone is ever heading up to ride and needs a riding buddy feel free to shoot me a message.

JP, good to see you back from retirement.

Last one of the season and it was a great one. Wasn't ready to quit yet.

Thanks for posting the ice videos! I used to play on the ice and still have a bike all setup but it's been years. I need to make it a priority again!
