So I left Saturday morning at 5:00am headed for the Devil’s Postpile. It was raining and plenty of thunder and lighting….not the last I would see of that. The usual boring ride out to Oakdale except for all the storms, but once I got there I had the storms to my back. Made a nice casual ride on 120 into Yosemite. Stopped at the visit point for some water and couple of pics

Off through Yosemite. Didn’t stop a whole lot, but at the usual places like Olmsted.

Actually hiked down a bit from the parking lot to the look out point to get an even better view.

Here’s the view towards Tenaya Lake [IMG]
Then up and over the top of the pass and a little rest here (not sure of the name, or if it has one).

Headed straight for Mammoth Mountain. I was able to go from Oakdale, to Devil’s Postpile and back into Mammoth all on a single tank…..nice, save a lot of time!. One you get to the ski lodge in Mammoth, follow Minerat Road up (you’re already at 9,000 as it is) to the entrance. It just happened to be free that day. Normally it’s $7.00 and you have to take a mandatory shuttle down to the campgrounds to access the trail, but that’s only during peak season which officially ends labor day weekend. Once in, follow the signs and out of nowhere you run into this

I walked around then hiked to the top

Pretty neat stuff. Started raining heading back to Lee Vining and I could see the lightning in the mountains, but the ride back went pretty smooth. Took a detour through Coulterville and back up 49 instead of Priests Grade and stopped at Moccasin Power plant to get a couple shots of it and the Hetch Hetchy pipes coming over the mountain

Then just on back home..pretty uneventful but I really enjoyed it. I really like the eastern Sierras, and there are a few places I saw I would like to check out some more.

They weren't to bad. Mostly at the popular places like Olmsted point and Tenaya Lake. But even with that it wasn't packed. I think the campgrounds were another story though
