I shoulda installed knobbies.
Been along for the ride quite a while now. Thanks for taking the time.
I'm just a brush-league Hobby Picker. I only sell to be able to afford to keep a little. Life has caused a bad case of Pickus Interruptus, so for a while I'll just pick the web.
Here's some Finds that belong here. I'm not gonna' take the time download, upload to Photobucket, and embed, though. Y'all can download from there if you want.
Just click. Trust me, what could go wrong...
This one, hold on until about 1:30, where the Good Stuff starts.
"The Los Angeles Police Department presents “Your Traffic Officer,” a late 1940s black-and-white training film that shows what it takes to be a motorcycle patrolman on the new freeways in post-World War II California."
(I never before knew how they "clocked" speed. Push a button to freeze the speedo. Just a 3-second mention while going over the cop-bike control layout.)
"THE NEW HARLEY DAVIDSONS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD is a campy yet precious sales film for the "new" Harley Davidson including the Duo-Glide and Sportster, the Model 165 and the Hummer. Made in the late 1950s..."
And the word New is used on all models, meaning This Year's, but they mentioned it was the 2nd year of the Sportster, so that should date it.
Showing the Duo-Glide; "Yes!! We said TWO sets of shock absorbers!!!"
The only thing that bothers me is, this source doesn't have exact dates on much of their archived stuff. Maybe if you backed tracked to https://stock.periscopefilm.com/ , but not on the links provided.
Back to arkansas, made a deal on a couple indians. Tomorrow im running to Oklahoma to the swapmeet at Seaba Station m/c museum. Hope to find some goodies there, and maybe sell some crap.
The Indians had been sitting almost 20 years. The 1945 shouldn't take much to get running, the 47 motor is apart.
The seal around the petcock leaked on the 45, and lifted the paint. There was even some old gas in the bubble of paint hanging down. I hope my painter friend can match the color ok, I dont want to pull and paint the fenders as well
That has to be exciting to walk into a find like that.
Hell, even me seeing the photos is exciting.
No wonder you are always smiling.
Also there, a couple yamahas that have been sitting for years. One in a nice garage, one in an old school bus.
The TT is the nicest ive ever seen. I wanna ride it, but I know ill just fuck it up if I do.
I owned an XT of that generation.
Between my Cousin (PO) and myself, we beat it like a rented mule.
He managed to break a swing-arm tube once, but it was toward the rear on the right where you could get vice grips over the clean break. Got him home. We suspected a defective part.
Hell, the other side held, he only noticed because it started "handling a little funny".
Only flaw was the carb liked to vapor-lock when you stopped, set for a minute or two, and then tried to re-start it in the hottest of summer. But once that was fixed, it was a beast.
Doug shows up at my place, Im thinking he's gonna load up his accumulation of shit from his summer adventures, but, he's decided to drop off more "stuff" because he bought more "stuff" this week.
I'm not sure, but I saw this place just up the road, I don't know for sure if he's branched out and opened up a central warehouse or if its just a coincidence, but I now am wondering.............
You shoulda built a bigger garage.
A guy called me a couple days ago in arkansas, and asked if i was interested in some CB750's.
He said they were original, from the 70s, but he had no way to take pics. It wasn't far out of my way after Terrys, so I stopped to see em.
I guess I coulda asked if they had been stored outside for 20 years.
I didnt buy anything from him.
I had pencilled in Oct 14 for that show, when I checked the website again I noticed it is stuck in 2018. It is a museum after all....
Are you trying to say you work for a living?
I went to the bike auction at barbers today. Only bought one bike, a harley fxrt.
They also had some cars for sale. One was a 1947 Dodge D24 Custom. Big ass 4 door land yacht.
My friend @KeithTurk told me a month ago that I needed this car. I said I didnt.
It has cool history, it was the car of William "Fishbait" Miller, Mississippi native and US congressional door greeter from 53 to 74. Apparently he rode lotsa dignitaries around in it, possibly even Truman and Ford.
Its sitting in a warehouse in Houston, Texas, and hasn't been on the road for at least 30 years.
Selling with no reserve, Keith suggested I bid on it, and if I get it, we ride out, get it running, and drive it back to alabama, towing the bikes on the trailer behind us.
I said thats the dumbest idea I have heard all year.
Of course I'm In!
I got it for 500 bucks. I didnt see that coming!
Were gonna make a video of the whole ordeal. He bought a BMW at the auction today, like the HD, it was fulla stinky old gas from sitting. I suggested it would only be proper for us to ride the bikes we got at the same auction to go get the car.
Look up Fishbait Miller, he was an interesting dude.
Here's the fxr I got at the auction. Nice bike, 8k miles, lots of upgrades. But had been sitting for years. Gas smelled like varnish, carb was gummed up, battery was shot. I went thru all of that and it runs like a new one. This will sell easy, of course after I ride it to Texas to get Fishbait's old dodge.
Luckily I didnt get the carb cover put back on before I noticed I forgot to reinstall the float....
The old Dodge reminds me of a 49 Chrysler I owned many years ago. Fluid drive, leather trimmed door panels and seats, wood grained dash and window trim, rear suicide doors, big enough to hold 100 clowns.
I drove mine for a couple of months while I rebuilt the motor on my main vehicle a 55 chevy truck, but never more than 50 miles from home.
Houston back to south Alabama ought to be an adventure.
I'll watch that video.
You are not parking that turd in my garage!!!!!
Nice FXRT, goovy seat man.
Ride that to Texas and you may want to keep it.
Glad I wasn't there would have had to bid against you.lol
Set of clamshell bags and Color match the lowers, beautiful.
Is it just me or is that the ugliest pos ever
