    As far as I know, there is no way into El Portal on dirt, the closest bridge to El P. on Foresta Rd is burned down.

    I'll be up there in a week or so, as long as the Briceburg Fire gets under control, and will take a look at Chowchilla Mountain Road, looks like the sweet dirty ticket to avoiding the big drop down to Oakhurst and then back up to Wawona. My friend in Mariposa says the road has a gate, gets closed in November...
