Well, since abandoned places seem to be popular, we won't abandon you!

    :hide

    :lol3

Let's start with a homeless person's abandoned stuff. :confused

    homeless stuff.jpg

It was just outside this abandoned business.

    abandoned business.jpg

No real sign of what it was, but it hasn't been trashed yet.

Here's a place that looks more like old ruins.

    abandoned building 1.jpg

This place was abandoned for a long time, but now someone seems to be taking an interest in it.

    abandoned building 2.jpg

That's all for the abandoned places tonight.

But there's more pics to come!

We took a trip down an old back road to get a barn pic.

    Green Barn.jpg

But what I was really wanting a shot of was the wagon!

    Old Wagon & Barn.jpg

Maybe a good one for the classic vehicles thread? :lol3

This is a bit random, but who can resist a lobster in a sombrero? :bandit

    seafood mural.jpg

And a bridge shot, just for kicks.

    bridge.jpg

Here's an old church we came across along the way.

    In His Presence Worship Center.jpg

I didn't see any signs to give any history on it though.

The next one is a bit more modern.

    Church of the Living God.jpg

It had a lot of interesting mosaic work all around the cross, and near the entrance.

For the next post, we return to one of our old stomping grounds.

    Stay tuned . . .

Okay, for tonight's last post, we hit the old railroad yard again. :nod

There was a train going through tonight, but I didn't get any video.
I got a series of stills though, to prove that it was moving.

    moving train 1.jpg

    moving train 2.jpg

    moving train 3.jpg

    moving train 4.jpg

They saw us standing there getting pictures, so they hit the horn for us! :D

Then we went and got some RR Crossing shots with equipment.

    crossing 1.jpg

    crossing 2.jpg

And on the way out, we got a quick shot for the graffiti thread.

    graffiti.jpg

While we were getting the shot of the All Seeing Eye with the 666, the crows started kawing at us, and we saw a black hearse, so I decided to make like a tree and get outta there! :lol3

    That's it for tonight y'all!

    Till next time.

We headed out of town today. :ricky

For our first stop, we went back to Arp. The town where I dropped the bike, and broke my toe.:muutt

    :dirtdog

    No toe tapping emoji! :nono

    :kurt
    That's more like it!

    :lol3

So, what did we find? More abandoned places!

An abandoned liquor store to start.

    Oasis Arp.jpg

And something that was, but isn't anymore!

    abandoned Arp.jpg

    Then, the abandoned gas station.

    Fina Arp.jpg

But just to prove that we were in Arp, and that the whole town isn't abandoned, how about a post office!

    Post office Arp.jpg

And finally, what I think may be their only eating establishment . . .

    :dukegirl

The name shows that it is gourmet dining at its finest . . .

    Purple Pig Cafe arp.jpg

    :lol3

And with that, we were off like a prom dress . . .

And on to our next location . . .

Which will be in the next post! :thumb

The next stop on our agenda, the bustling city of Overton, TX. :clap

Only, it wasn't exactly bustling. :augie

We were greeted by an abandoned city block. :confused
Everything was gone but the pizza joint! :hmmmmm

    abandoned block Overton.jpg

    Here's an abandoned jewelry store.

    abandoned jewelry store Overton.jpg

    The old theater.

    abandoned theater Overton.jpg

    Something else that was abandoned.

    abandoned building & tank Overton.jpg

This section of town reminded me of an old western town.

    western looking block Overton.jpg

And, you can still go to church! :pope
    :lol3

    Voices of Victory Church Overton.jpg

And there's the school with the big horse statue!

    1932 School w Horse Overton.jpg

And the fire department was still operational. :nod

Being a former EMT, I still have a soft spot for rescue workers! :thumb

    Fire Rescue Truck Overton.jpg

So, after a final shot of the water tower . . .

    Water Tower Overton.jpg

    We headed back home.

    :ricky

But, that was just the early ride.

I'll be back with a few more!

After dinner, we did a bit more sidewalk riding, and got a few shots of some decorated electrical boxes.

How about a cowboy mural box?

    Cowboy Mural Box.jpg

Perhaps one with a strange tree?

    Tree Mural Box.jpg

    Or even a pineapple?

    Pineapple Mural Box.jpg

And that's about it for today's adventures.

I'm going to be doing some work on Sheree's 1980 El Camino, but we'll still be getting out for more rides, too!

    Till next time y'all!

Yesterday wasn't much for riding. We went out and bought parts for the El Camino for me to start work today.

    Rear brake time!
    What a mess!

Left side, filthy and extremely worn, but not broken and hideous.

    el camino left rear brake.jpg

    Right side, much worse!

    el camino right rear brake.jpg

    Notice the wheel cylinder?
    Sumpin' is missin'!

    brake broke.jpg

That brake shoe is from the left side, the broken cylinder is from the right.

    Drums are shot, too!

    brake drums.jpg

Worn beyond safe turning, so I bought 2 more for $40 each. Not worth risking a life over. :nono

Then, it was break time! (Pun intended!) :lol3

My daughter came by and took Sheree to the lake again, and I went out to give Sheree a ride home. :pynd :ricky

    Proof!

    Serenity at Lake Tyler.jpg

Sheree saw some interesting sculptures that she wanted a shot of.

    metal cacti decor.jpg

Metal cacti (or you can call the cactamactamusses if you want :lol3 ).
She loves the desert, so they stood out to her.

And that was about all for today, other than visiting with my daughter.

    We'll see what happens next!

    Today was more car work.

I came across some PO stupidity.
What do you do if your wheel cylinder leaks, and you don't know how to get the stupid GM retaining clip off?

    screw in brake line.jpg

Someone just blocked the line with a screw! WTF??? :confused :loco

    screw.jpg

I got it out though, and finally got the brakes finished.

    Left side:

    left side done.jpg

    New drums too.

    left finished.jpg

    Right side.

    right side done.jpg

    And drum.

    right finished.jpg

I still need to replace that lug stud. :nod

Then I rode to Auto Zone to pick up the brake hose that I ordered.

    brake line on bike.jpg

Must have some motorcycle content! :D

    brake line on seat.jpg

And when I got home, it started to rain, and cancelled our evening ride! :permazot

At least I got one ride in today! :clap

    That's it for now y'all!

    More El Camino work today.

Out with the old, in with the new.

    New Monroe air shocks.

    shocks.jpg

And the new brake hose that I got yesterday.

    brake hose.jpg

    Then it rained again.:permazot :dirtdog

It has been raining off and on all afternoon.

Here's the view that Serenity has, looking at all the other vehicles getting wet.

    wet with rain.jpg

That's Gloriana under the bike cover in front of the Cougar.

So, another washed out afternoon and evening ride. :(

Maybe tomorrow will be better. :dunno

My first new car was a 1978 El Camino SS. My college hauler. I recall that it had standard rear air shocks as well. 350 4bbl/auto. It coincided with a brief period my dad didn't have a pickup so the SS became the summer weekend lake cottage hauler of firewood, etc. where the air shocks were a blessing.

Not mine but close. Mine was white with the same black/red lower SS treatment, front air dam, etc.

We ran a few errands yesterday, and didn't get any photos.
Kinda did the same today, but we grabbed a few shots.

We went to Wal Mart, and were greeted bu a scene from a Hitchcock movie.

    WM birds.jpg

I kept my goggles on, just in case! :lol3

Then, on the way home, we stopped for a pic for the graffiti thread.

    fence grafitti.jpg

And right behind us was a shot I couldn't resist.
The cell phone photo doesn't do it justice.

    orange sunset.jpg

I think it was because of all the smoke in the air from the fires out west, but it sure looked nice.

And that was about it for today.

I have to take some measurements for the El Camino exhaust tomorrow, but maybe some riding after that? :dunno

    We'll see. :evil

It's the same with the way they can't capture depth, or the steepness of an incline. It is flattening a 3-D world onto a 2-D device. The sharpness of the lens, the aperture and shutter speed all have something to do with it.
There are a lot of compromises that go into a camera, and my cell phone images are much lower quality than my Nikon images would be, but I'd probably break the DSLR anyway.

I could probably take the picture into Photoshop and make it look more like it was to my eyes, but I'd spend a lot of time making art, rather than trying to document our rides.

After 4 days of rain, my thread slipped to page 2! :yikes

    :dirtdog

    :whip :thwak

I'll try not to let it happen again!

We got Old Blue ('82 F-100) inspected and registered this morning, and there was only a little bit of light sprinkling, so I went out after dinner for a ride and to get a few pics. :thumb

I found this cozy little cottage, with a white picket fence. Who could resist that?

    abandoned house.jpg

Yes, there is a house in there! :lol3

Then, I saw this old classic.

    MR 2.jpg

They were kinda cool in the day, but I wanted a Porsche 944. ( I finally got one in 1999. :super I still have it, and need to get it back on the road, too! )

Since everyone seems to like abandoned buildings, and I can't let @Macho Man2 have all the abandoned places posts, I found a few more.

    Some old industrial buildings.

    abandoned buildings 1.jpg

    More.

    abandoned buildings 2.jpg

    Another one.

    abandoned buildings 4.jpg

And then I found an old warehouse complex that has been abandoned for a while.
They are mostly the Quonset hut type buildings.

    abandoned buildings 3.jpg

    The next row.

    abandoned buildings 5.jpg

Got some pointy roofs in there, too.

Then I went in search of some shots for the Bridges thread.

    street bridge.jpg

That one shows some of the debris from the recent rains that we had.

Then, there's the overpass by the train yard.

    overpass.jpg

And since I was in the area, I checked out the trains and heavy equipment, but that has got to be in the next post.

    BRB! :wave

Was starting to wonder what was going on since the MC content had halted.

Speaking of 944's, I was 17 years old and a used car dealer in Tupelo, MS had a black 944 Turbo for sale. 5 speed.

Took it for a test drive and loved it but could not afford insurance for it. I remember the speed and the heft/sturdiness the car had. Loved it compared to the '85 Buick LeSabre boat my brothers and I shared.

Definitely post up pics of the 944 when you get a chance.

    Ok, I'm back!

And we're off to the Union Pacific train yard.

I got to get close to the engine, so why not?

    train 1.jpg

    train 3.jpg

    train 2.jpg

As you can see, it was a bit muddy through there, but no crashes this time! :clap

    Getting artsy.

    behind train.jpg

Ya mean I'm not s'posed ta play on the trains? :augie

    :lol3

    Then I found a 'ho!

    backhoe.jpg

And a little farther up, I came across a crane.

    Karate_Kid-crane.jpg

    Not that kind! :nono

    Heavy metal kind!

    crane.jpg

The sign says GVW 60,000 lbs., so I'll call it heavy! :lol3

And that about wraps up tonight's ride.

    Till next time y'all.

I'll have to find some from a few years ago when it was running. It's a white 1983 NA. First year, no PS and manual sun roof.

    Cookie cutter wheels?

When I was a kid to the teenage years those were my favorite wheel design until Porsche Carrera 2 Turbo and then 993 wheels and Turbo twists.

Porsche has always had the best wheel designs IMO.
