Wow, it's been four years since I've done the Dirtbag Challenge!!

    We've been given the Go!

The plan for this attempt...I'm pulling the Bandit engine from the Baja Bandit project.

    https://advrider.com/f/threads/the-baja-bandit.432320/

I'm stalled out on it and have been watching for a crashed CBR500R or the like as I think the parallel twin would be a better fit for that chassis.

Anyways... Bandit 600 engine, scratch built hardtail frame(I have a frame jig now), leading link front, chopperish sort of thing. I'm going to try for something I keep and ride a bit, nicer than my past attempts. I think I can do that now that it's a two month build and a $2k budget(I hope to stay well short of that).

Parts I have..engine, Harley rear wheel I found in the trash with sprocket and rotor, cool Yamaha tank that @waylongway gave me and some handlebars that are dumb, but they're going on it.

Obstacles...my garage is a disaster since I moved in 2017. I've been making slow progress setting it up, but now I need to speed things up.

I hope I can pull this off. The scratch built frame is a little ambitious, but I've learned from the mistakes that I made in the past with the two 30 day thrash fest builds.

Ordered some parts, that budget goes quick. :knary

Steering neck, front wheel, seat, rear fender and some seat air springs are on the way. Got some much nicer stuff from Lowbrow Customs than I'd normally buy.

I started putting a steel order together and I need to get the tape measure out to fine tune the order. I really can't blow $100 on extra tubing.

I'm going to use the fog light that still works off the Triumph for the headlight, just got new lights for it. I might have something laying around for the tail light.

Ok, I've been researching parts that I want for six months waiting for the Go!, I've spent pretty much the whole 2k. The spousal unit isn't pleased, but she's used to it. :lol3

I'll have more to post about as the parts start rolling in.

I might need to steal some parts off of other bikes in the garage to stay within budget. It's a totally different game when I want a bike to keep. Some things will have to wait until after the challenge and into the refinement stage.

    Some parts came in!!

Steering stem/neck. Don't try to figure it out, it'll make sense later.

Seat air ride bladders, I got them for $27...Indian Larry's shop was selling a kit with these 15 years ago for $550 or something like that.

@Nixels came over and helped me get a bunch of garage work done. I'd been working with an eye towards a traditional fall Dirtbag Challenge, now I'm scrambling. We did a lot more than just finish that wall.

Tubing shows up for the frame on Monday, I have to assemble the frame jig by then.

Thanks for the help, @Nixels !!

Got a ton of work done today.

    IMG_20190630_215534007_HDR.jpg IMG_20190630_215538836.jpg

Then I stalled out with a dead battery on my welding helmet and the solar hood hasn't seen daylight in so long I don't trust it.

    IMG_20190630_224325667_HDR.jpg

Nice axle plates from Chop Source, threw those into the order back when I got the jig kit, but ended up finding a wheel with a different size axle.

Lookin' good. You could probably fit more bikes in there if you made a double decker rack for them. :D

Didn't know seat air ride bladders were a thing. Wish I'd known before I sold my Road Star. You learn something every day, which is part of the reason we like these threads!
