Took Mrs Box.a.bits along to the Distinguished Gentlemens Ride - Wellington. The ride is in support of prostrate cancer research & men’s health, and is run worldwide. But the NZ donations stay in NZ. If you would like to contribute as well, my donation page is here. https://www.gentlemansride.com/rider/boxabits One slightly annoying feature of every DGR I have been on is that between the DGR site, & Facebook I've discovered a number of different meeting/briefing/leaving times. It took a bit to motivate Mrs Box.a.bits to be ready at a reasonable time, in part because of daylight saving time (which meant in reality we needed to be ready an hr earlier than we otherwise would have), & the fact that she was willing to go with the latest time of the 3 advertised. After spending a good portion of the night before playing dress up, Mrs Box.a.bits still ended up wearing something different on the day... I ended up in a 3 piece suit, french cuffs, & a bow tie. I also shaved my beard into mutton chops for the day. Looked very dapper, if I do say so myself. Packed a picnic lunch & coffee, so many loos were visited on the way round. Unfortunately the weather didn’t entirely cooperate – it was cold & gusty. If only the weather from earlier in the week could have stayed around. But at least the rain stayed away until mid afternoon. The ride started & ended at the Chocolate Fish Cafe at Shelly Bay, & rode the bays round to Red Rocks. After a regroup there, the majority of the ride headed back to the Chocolate Fish Cafe via Wellington. We may have short circuited that. I’ve included a few of the photos I took. Feel free to add photos & commentary from DGRs at Wellington or other locations Shortly after we arrived, & before the crowds showed up... A bit confused Charlie. Usually it's either a machine gun OR a stretcher. You don't normally see both. Unless you need to clean up the evidence... Quite liked the personalisation of this one Eldorado Wee Ducati Anyone know what's up with the stator case on this bike? Prize winner.. Not allowed to test ride one of these...in case I end up buying one... Very Mad Max or Stone. The Gentleman's mutton chops appear to be the real thing - not just a styling gesture... Four arrived in the Ural. The keys were in the ignition for the whole event. Good job it was blocked in... Andrew's R90S on it's first event after a refurbishment, next to his H2 Norton Hi-Rider. Interesting OEM styling Very cool Metisse. May have had an issue in Seatoun during the ride however.... The chopper next to the kiddies playground just made me smile... Sue & Mike arriving in the Ural. Sue was sporting a moon boot this year. Extra style points. Good lord. Who put that in here. Subtle style. The riot police helmets earn bonus points Ummm... More... A good turnout, 290 riders registered (not sure how many turned up). $22,329 in Wellington based donations to date, NZ wide $169,872, with potentially more to come.
