If your unit is under 5years old, Garmin will replace it for free. I just ordered a replacement at no charge from Garmin. Nav V has 5 years warranty.

Are you sure the battery is bad? I found they drain incredibly quick while in use off the bike. They are not really made to be used handheld.

    This +1

Though it appears not everyone gets this treatment. As a point of data - I called Garmin for a replacement battery for my Montana, maybe 6 yrs old(?) and they sent me one right out and the guy apologized for the inconvenience.

So basically calling Garmin is like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you're gonna get.

Looks like Garmin has "discontinued" that particular battery but if you type that battery part # into Aliexpress, they have what they claim is a direct replacement...YMMV...

Just to update the thread, Garmin is sending me a new battery for about $29 including tax (free shipping). I emailed them today expecting an answer next week, but they responded within an hour. I mentioned that I had heard the battery was actually warranted for 5 years but they blew me off. So I’m good with the $29 especially since I bought my Nav 5 in 2017 and it was used.

FYI.......The Nav V and I suppose the Nav VI battery will run down (even if the gps is shut off) if the GPS is not used for a period of time (winter storage..etc).
That will also shorten the battery life.
It is suggested to charge the battery and then unplug it or remove it from the GPS if your are not going to use the GPS for a few months.
