We are getting ready to leave tomorrow for our first trip of 2018! Yes, I know we are getting a four day head start on the New Year.:D Since most of the trip will take place in 2018, I have started a new Thread for the new year. If you wish to follow along, it is located here:

    http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...18-mexico-central-america-and-beyond.1273805/

Questions and comments are always welcome! Please let us hear from you as we travel!

PS, I am going to try to get Modesta to write a few lines each day to give her perspective.

    Hi!

I am writing this from Flores, Guatemala. Looking at our travels for 2017, we ended up traveling 46% of the time. That travel time includes 79 days traveling in Mexico, 89 days traveling in the USA, and 2 days traveling south of Mexico. Those two days being part of the trip we are currently on. Modesta and I were together for all of the traveling, except for one 16 day trip to the USA that occurred before she had her Visa.

I expect that we will be on the road more this year. The only big break in traveling will be a ten week period encompassing when, Itzayane will give birth to Modesta's first blood grandchild.

Edit: Not all of our travel was on the moto, we did some of the trips by car. Total mileage for the moto last year was 22,002 miles, most of which was traveling because we ride very little locally.

    ¡Hola!

    Very sad.

Thank you for all that you shared Donnie & Modesta with the rest of us stuck behind our desks dreaming about doing the epic stuff you actually got out and did. You were a true statesmen of the adventure riding community.

Eakins, thanks for picking up on that link and passing that along to the rest of us.

    Very sad, indeed.

Had to read this post twice to understand what had just happened. At this moment, I am torn to pieces to read this terrible news. Donnie, thank you for sharing your adventure with all of us, and your wife too. God Bless both of you....

This tread was one of my religious reads. I actually hope to follow some of his rides one day.

I’m just heartbroken to hear this.

My first thought was disbelief. My second was to try to imagine how the family's must feel. This just sucks.
