As our riding season in Minnesota winds down over the next couple of months, I need a winter project. Love my GSA, but there are times I just want a smaller lighter bike with some retro flair for running around town.

Would love input on a good donor bike to meet my needs. Here's what I'm thinking high level:

    - strip off fairings, plastic trim, headlight, etc
    - don't like the cafe style seats and will ride 2 up, so either build a simple custom seat or do something custom with the factory seat pan
    - low but useable handlebars (probably not clip ons)
    - remove factory exhaust to save weight and give it some bark
    - hopefully full disc brakes and ABS would be a nice to have
    - so many Japanese builds out there and I'd like to do something a little more unique like Guzzi or BMW
    - don't mind spending a couple grand on a donor bike running in relatively good shape

Love to hear your thoughts! I did quite a bit of research on the R1100R yesterday, but that tank is kinda ugly and will become the focal point on this build. Also might be a little heavy. I find the GSA very agile and nimble... I think the right roadster build could feel even better for zipping around town!

Meets none of your needs, but fun as hell!
