I'm in the saddle and on the road.
First I packed the bike. Everything I owned was sitting on the ground around the bike and I kept thinking,"I've got to make this fit. It's got to all fit." And, can you believe it, it fits.

Next I dropped the keys off in the empty apartment.

Then I took one last look at the apartment complex before hitting the road for good.

My first stop was to say bye to my mom. She fought the tears back the whole time. It was really sad.

Then I went to where I used to work. Said some goodbye's..

-owner, "take it easy out there."
    -me, "I will"
-owner's son, "You stashin some weed?"
-owner, "I'm envious of you. Have a good time."
-me, "thanks. It was a pleasure working here."
-owner's son, "huh, you got some weed?"
-owner, "I'd suggest staying out of Mexico if you're going to be alone."
-me, "I was thinking I'd probably do that."
-owner's son, "Where's the weed stashed?"
    -me :patch

Then I headed over to where my girlfriend works. Greg, the boss, followed us outside and kept trying to tell me about how he went to Las Vegas one time on a motocycle. I was like, "oh-kay, that's great Greg." :bluduh

That's when the thunder and lightning started. I road like a fool to try and get infront of it, but it was no use. 30 minutes into the ride and I was soaked. The worse part is I forgot where I had packed the rain gear. I stopped to put it on, but where was it? :dunno Do I search the whole bike?

Everything was wet. I didn't feel like pulling off all the bungee nets to try and find it, so I just kept going. I also forgot to pull the electric cord out from under the seat, when I packed, so I could plug in the electric vest. I had the vest on, but no heat. It was like a spunge. Oh well, eventually I dried out.

Once I was out on the road I only stopped a few times. So many of my shots are from the seat.

Short stop at Multnomah Falls, Oregon.

    Then back on to I-84.

An hour down the road and the sun comes out to play.

    It was very pretty.

I crossed the columbia river back over to the Washington side via this bridge on hwy 97.

A real quick stop at Stonehenge. (Wait, when did I make it to Europe?)

Another shot of the massive Stonehenge shadow and the Columbia River.

Having some fun with the camera.

I battled this train for a little while. I slowly caught and passed him. I felt like a real train robber.

I paid too much for gas at this Chevron..

Then I crossed another bridge on my way to I-90.

As the sun started to go down I snapped this shot just over my shoulder.

Then I finally made it to my first destination. My cousin's house.

First thing she did was offer me a beer. :freaky Cousins are cool. :D

Then she fed me some noodles and packed me a bag of food.

Her husband, Brian, also joined in with the giving.

-Brian, "I got something for you."
-me, "Oh yeah, what is it?"
-Brian, "something you cannot live without."
-me, "Right on, I love things like that."
-Brian *walks out of the room*

    He returned with this.

What the hell am I supposed to do with that?? Oh well, "thanks Brian"

Then he gave me a military shirt that is supposed to keep you warm in any weather. (He's in the Air Force) Next he gave me some wool socks and finally he gave me another beer. My cousin's husband is cool. :D

He really really needs this Adventure
    ------------------------------------------------------------

Update 8/26/5: We have collected $2,250 so far plus pledges for monthly installments

To continue the good work that Vance started on "The US on 40 bucks a day" we are sending a Dork Accross America. If anyone needs a trip it is this guy and I'm sure we'll have a blast helping him and those that can supporting him in a $$ way

Vance: I'm in for $40.00 per month. I think it's an excellent idea to get people in for a monthly committment so that the Dork can travel without stress.

So far I'm, Ken4237682, in for 1/2 month plus food and lodging, including a ride down to the Gulf Coast, Florida.

Jmetter is in for a day and helping with prep.

MadBrit is in for $40 a month for the next 12 months ($480) - i.e. I would sponsor him a day a month as per some of you other bastidges.

    Motoplaner: I'm good for $40

Modrover: Hey Dork... get your shit in order and... fucknhell Mate... I'll try to pull $40 out my ass for ya too! :freaky

Gangplank: an electric vest and a sticker :evil

Jake's offering up his Brother's space again!

Rider: gave us a sticky and then SOMEONE took it away DUKEGIRL IS INNOCENT!

Shoganai: donation to this AWSOME endeaver of $500.00. :clap

Doug Matson : Who is setting the fund up? I'll pick up a day or more.

DataDaddy: I am in...my $40 is in the hat and a place to stay...I will continue to play too...

little john: I'll pay for your entry to the longest running AMA dual sport in the state. get you camping and 4 meals

FREEFLOW: I'll pitch in a day or so of cash...and lodging and whatever esle needed in the wisconsin area.....

richard cabesa: whoaaaa, I skipped this thread 'cause Ken started it, sorry. This is a great Idea and I'm in.

ducfer2112: I will contribute 40 as soon as the ride starts.

headhunter: I am in for $40 if Dork actually has the balls to go through with this.

AceRph: Ride with me to the CroMag CO Dork, part of the way or all of the way. I'll buy gas, food & drink once in awhile. That's my contribution.

A very generous asshole (who will remain anonymous) just put me over the $2000 goal with $100 sponsored donation and is doing $40 per month.

Vespa is in for room and jam

$560 from a secret admirer :sweeti (if I told you how I know this I'd have to kill you)

Drif10: I'll feed him, give him a place to crash, service his bike, and send him on his way with some travelling cash.

Force Junkie: I'm good for $40 as well as a place to crash and service the bike in California, Northern Los Angeles area

thencamebronson: I'm sending you a day's worth, my friend.

Hannda: I'm good for a day and a place to stay with meals & beer.

Metal Doc: I'm in for beer, and shelter if Dork cruises through Western Pennsylvania on his way to Cromags (or any other time)

Meathead: I'm with Vance! :deal $40 per month. If enough people do that, we'll keep the fucker going forever :freaky (even if we do have to swap riders every year or so 'cause they keep getting trapped by some hot taco along the way).

Hodag: I'm in... You like to see a packer game

Modrover: an exellent spectator, was kind enough to give me a practically brand new Tour Master jacket for my journey

Gonzo: I am a NOoB that is in for $40... does this make me part of the "click"?

Aprilla Gorilla: Go get 'em Dork. I'm in for $40 'round about month 5 or 6

Tourist: I've got a set of Jeep tires chained to the tree out front of the house - when they sell I'll stick a days worth of cash in an envelope and send it off to the snail mail addy listed earlier.

wtrlogd: Sent $40 through paypal - Future donations based upon the entertainment value, as the trip progresses.

mdrsteve:Awesome read so far! I'm hooked! (and I'll be in with the $$ to sponsor a day or two when I get my next paycheck!

A tiny tip for Dork. Pack the rainsuit on the top of everything else! Bunge on top of the rest of your shit. Hell, you look like an Okie anyhow, so why not hang of some waterproofs? At least you can find 'em. One of my many mistakes # 6,059,438. In the first 100,000 are the women of all pursuasions I was too dumb not to sleep with.
