DrJoe, I think you're spot on with the rego inspectors :D I was thinking about attaching the KTM 300 subframe to the DR but it looks like too much work for me and my backyard. It would lighten the load though! hmmm. maybe I should keep it just in case...:evil My project is on hold for a week or so... the cylinder head on my Defender cracked and I'm dealing with that at the mo...

Nice build so far mate... should hook up for a ride in the future.

I've got a non titanium muffler if you decide to do the GIXER mod. Same as TIT but heavier. You can lend it if ya want to get the shae for a mid pipe right.

No website but his details are here

I have been working 200m from his factory door for six months ? ironic eh, will have to have a nosey in the factory next time im passing.

Be interesting to see how how close that is when chopped Joe, only a minimal fibreglass jobbie needed.

May be worth dropping my frame down his factory along with a Safari tank & see if he would be intrested in making a proper off the shelf product for all us DR/KTM safari wannabies, im sure theres a market for them around the world.

Thanks for the offer mate but i already have a TK pipe and i really like it.
I still need to get a header pipe, I'm trying to persuade TK to make one.
If any one has one that they would like to sell me i would be very interested.

I was very tempted to buy a safari tank just because of how easy it would be to put a fairing on it.
When my mates fairing arrives we will alter it to fit his 690 safari tank and i will see if my other mate who has a dr650 with a safari tank wants to try it on his bike.
I'll post some pics when it happens.

(And yes I only have two mates)

If the DRZ plastics prove to be too large a PITA, then you could spring for brand new black DR panels, fenders & shroud from ProCycle.

I bought a drz400s subframe on ebay last night so when it gets here we will see if i'm a genius or a frigging idiot.

I also pulled me finger out and worked out the dr's combustion chamber and piston dish volume.
Using a syringe and a piece of perspex i worked out that the volume of the cylinder head combustion chamber is approximately 54cc and the piston that I'm using has a dish volume of 6cc
These values probably aren't vary accurate but there good enough for me.

If I skim 0.7mm off the head the compression ratio should go from 9.75-1 to 10.5-1
I can then go to 11-1 with a thinner head gasket.
If 11-1 turns out to be to much I'll stick the thicker gasket back in.

All this compression ratio crap is new to me so if i'm doing something wrong please say.

Seeing as i'm going to have 100hp at the rear wheel I thought I better upgrade the front brake and being the tight arse that I am there was no way I was going to spend big bucks on a oversize disc and fancy calliper bracket.
So I spent half the day making a bracket to hold a nissin 3 pot caliper that came of a honda black bird.

I thought I would leave a bit of the bracket sticking down to protect the caliper from rocks and other nastys but it looks a bit dorky so i might lop it off.

    ebay usa $100 delivered.
The whole brake system came with it so i have three brake calipers front and rear master cylinders and the linking valve things.

They came of a 99-03 honda 1100xx black bird.

I'm sure you'll find one in a wreckers yard.

The subframe arrived today so I got bizy with the grinder.
It took me a while to pluck up the courage to cut the old subframe off.
(sorry a bout the crappy blurred pics)

    no going back now
    [IMG]

    It almost fits.

I reckon its gonna look good
    [IMG]

    The width is spot on.

I'm not too fussed on weight but just for you riders watching every kg I weighed both frames. The dr one is 4.5kg and the drz is 0.8kg.
