I recently picked up this tidy 2000 DR & have been spending way too much on it at ProCycle.

The bike was owned by an old boy who had bought it to ride the Dempster with his church group, but the trip never happened. It has covered just 11,500km in the last 21 years. Perfect.

    Mods/farkles so far are:

    Stiffer springs front (0.58) & rear (8.3)
Wirtz Wire low/rear foot peg mounts
    Renthal Enduro High bar
Pillow Top grips (with Motion Pro throttle tube)
    Acerbis hand guards
    Acerbis 5.3 gallon tank
    Acerbis frame guards
    ProCycle jet kit/airbox cut out
    NSU screws wired
    Countershaft seal retainer
    Moose ADV1 panniers
Rack & skid plate fitted by previous owner

    What’s next?

    July 8th

Predicted high of 66 with sun. Would be a great july ride day, but Im re shingleing a roof instead.

The only upside is its 41 degrees right now, and would require heavy ridin clothes the first few hours...........not gonna need those as the sun hits da roof ! :lol3

I actually don’t find the seat too bad. 30 years of mountain biking has toughened up my posterior & the seat on my KTM is much firmer.

Hey Guys I'm looking into buying a 1999 DR650 with ACERBIS tank. and dg exhaust.
    29K miles

    For 3,200.

I want to know if I'm getting a good deal, on top of knowing that for peace of mind I would have to change the Torque limiter even though the owner hasn't had a problem.

I may or may not be in the wrong forum asking these questions, Sorry in advance.

I just want to buy something that I can work on and push around the US. Mind you I did a trip from Santiago, Chile to New York on a 2017 Zongshen 200GY

It seems a bit high for a 22 year old bike, but that will vary based on your local market. Around here the same price will get you a 2009-2011 with about half those miles. The bikes are largely unchanged though so if it's fair for your local market then go for it and enjoy.

I'm going to agree with George on price, that is rather high but condition is more important than price.
The torque limiter isn't a problem, until it is and the engine is toast.
The tank is a nice addition, the DG not so much.
The used bike prices are quite high most places now but I would look for a newer DR for that money, or offer a good bit less for the 99.

It is odd but the used bike prices here in Anchorage have not gone crazy like they have Outside.
But our market is tiny, as are the choices of machines.

That's all that is currently listed on CL using "Dual Sport" as the search.
Compared with some of the dual sport prices I read about, these are mostly well priced.

Here are the DR650's on Bike finds:

    upload_2021-7-8_20-34-5.png

I would keep looking and have cash on hand to jump when one sounds good.

And welcome to the DR world hangout!
We like riders who actually ride their bikes, even little 200's :beer
That must have been a great trip :ricky
