I requested this a long time ago - not sure if I was responsible - but I just noticed that there is a new DuckDuckGo bang search for ADVRider. If you use DuckDuckGo and search for

Which oil for my R1100GS !adv

    It’s the same as typing

Which oil for my R1100GS site:advrider.com

Saves you a total of 13 keystrokes every time you need to satisfy your oil thread cravings. Could add up to a lot. Enjoy.

Very cool. Anyone know who is responsible for this?

How does duckduckgo know that "adv" is advrider.com, and not advertisingmonthly.com?

@transplant it must have been your suggestion to DDG. Thanks buddy.

Maybe we need to improve our search tool if Duck Duck does a better job?

Not a ton we can do to improve it right now. We already use ElasticSearch on the backend with language stemming and showing the most relevant results first. I have implemented quite a few improvements to the implementation in the last 6 months or so, but not sure what else I can do to improve it. Open to suggestions...

I'm a big fan of Duckduckgo. I have to admit Google still has a better algorithm, but I always start with DDG and resort to Google only if the results aren't sufficient.

Can there be an option to get absolutely all matches for a given criteria, through the full history of the site? Results seem spotty right now... as an example, searching for threads that have the term "1150" in the title within the GS Boxers forum gives results that barely go older than 2009, even though that model GS was in production when the site started.

There is always going to be a maximum # of search results returned. However, setting it too high can cause performance issues. I have just increased the limit from 200 to 500. If that doesn't solve / help your issue, and I don't see any server issues arising from it, I can double it again.

Thanks... I didn’t make the connection that results were being throttled.
