unless something weird happens, I'm planning on heading west next summer to have a few drinks with the folks out west and ride those beautiful mountains. :thumb

the straight line from here to there is 1939 miles via slab I-64 to I-70 at St Louie to US 24 to 115 to 50 to 550.

but, I'm thinking of leaving the weekend before and taking the long way there. And then hauling ass back on the slab route.

I'm just curious about those other easterner's thinking about going. I know plans change and weird shit crops up, especially planning this far out.

Who on this side of the Mississippi is seriously thinking about going?

You should consider a stop in Riderland on your way. Plenty of room here, get up, pick up King Dan IV in the am, on to Ouray!:freaky

Haven't thought that far ahead yet, but I would have to consider Friday afternoon and use the entire weekend before.

you should do the NYC to SF CC50. it'd be easier from where you are.

understand. that's not a bad idea.

I'm playing around with the map software looking for options for the week. places I'd like to see.

If I bust it across the plains, there'll be more time for the mountains.

    options:
    Mt Rushmore
    Santa Fe, NM
    Gila Cliff Dwellings, NM

    stuff like that.

:dunno the idea has just started taking hold. :D

I've already started working this one into the calander for next year. If'n it ends up on the weekend of July 25(ish) like the poll is pointing too, I'll be doing the same timeframe as you, leaving the weekend before, spending the week before riding the big hills out there, then doing 1.5 day run for home the Mon/Tues after so I don't miss the kids birthday.
When I did my first trip out west, I counted on taking Rt. 50 all the way out. An older, wiser rider told me to just suck it up and slab it, cuz I'd just waste two days of my vacation on boring roads, and end up with a couple of tickets to show for it, and I took the advice. Glad I did. I count on doing the same thing this time around, but since I'm not gonna be pressed for time to get out there, not sure where I'll head those first couple of days.....

Thinkin' about it, Buddy. But it's too far off yet to commit. I like your travel plans though; that's how I'd do it too.

it looks it. :thumb I'll save that for a winter trip. I've always wanted to go there.

but, this time, the coin has spoken. North is the route out there. and the quickest path back home. :D

    Grand Canyon- BTDT

looking at the date in the poll, I think I rather head N anyway and try to stay out of the heat. but, then again, it gets freaking hot up there too :cry
