I drove down to the Alma store and grill, fueled up, watered up, fooded up, but NO beer. Time for plan B. The weather was moving in to the north, beer was available Reserve thirty two miles north, or Buckhorn twenty nine miles to the south. Buckhorn it was, but I wanted to see a very historic cemetery just north of Alma.

Slammed the pavement to Buckhorn, grabbed what I needed and had a very good conversation with the lady once she realized I was not one of them. I had a plan to see Outlaw mountain but the county maintained road had a locked gate right at the turn. Fortunately I had a backup plan (again). The Martinez road is a favorite of mine. Rolled down it to a nice site with a view of a lot of country.I have been through and country I will be rolling through in the immediate near future.

Thanks again mntdawg for the RR! My dad was one of the CCC boys back in the late '30s in central and southwestern NM - part of the reason he moved the family out west from the coal fields of PA. I've go to go see more of that area!!

The current project I am supervising right now is a historic preservation of a CCC structure, today we had to pull up part of the hard wood floor, looking over the pile of boards the men had stacked one jumped out at me, Charles laid this floor eighty three years and sixteen days ago.

The weather has moved of so we are headed north. I've known Pat over twenty five years, he has taught me more things than he will ever know he has. He also has a passion for history of the southwest so a revisit to the WS was in order.

It's nice looking at a place so big and empty. All those dirt roads to yourself... and some of them pretty damn challenging by the looks of it!

    Cheers

Great pictures of the Alma cemetery and surrounding country. My dad always mentioned Elfego Baca as being a true western hero that was totally unheard of by the rest of the country. He was in a CCC camp around the Apache Creek area if I remember correctly as well as one up in the Jemez mountains north of Albuquerque. Would enjoy seeing some your travel routes if you're willing to share..

    Cheers!!!

As I mentioned a few pages back with photos, Motoz Desert HT.

Amazing history abounds all around us, most are to lazy to research when the tool of information (device) is stuck to there face all day long and are content with the history of NOW! As far as the routes, they are all just lines on maps or lines on the ground that I have poked my nose down at some point in time linked together in a way that suits me for the particular time. I feel I am sharing the routes with place names and context clues.

My friend has been interested in seeing the XXX for some time. We left camp intact and rolled down hill towards the Blue.

We drove up the east side towards the Stacy ranch and took a break, looking back at all the country we had just came across was spectacular. I started experimenting with the point and shoot Canon on the fly.
