Thanks appreciate it, you'll never get the sand out of that bike, don't tell anyone I hardly ever eat those things, and they all taste the same to me.

I've been to the car show once, from what I hear it's not at all like it was in the day, at least in the atmosphere no more boobies, beer or burnouts, the cars were nice tho.

Yes it was different in the early days. I had a 10 year gap and noticed it was a little less than earlier.

Surprising my wife with a trip up north / Mackinac Island next week for her 50th birthday.

This is a great thread, digging on the trucks too. :-)

I ride through this area every year on my way to road america for the superbike races. This thread makes me want to take the KLR next year and check out some back roads. Great pics.

Haven't seen the ground since the first week of Nov.

The motorcycle trailer is under there someplace, I'm pretty sure that's where I parked it

Gus is even tired of this shit.

Not been in the mood to work on the bikes, plus work has kept me busy.

I did do the doo in the KLR and checked the valve lash, both exhausts were tight and one intake was close, only had to purchase one shim as I was able to move them around to get the desired clearance.

I didn't remove the cams just took the caps off and used a small screw driver to lift the shim and pull it out with a magnet.
to bad they don't have a C shaped tool to roll under the cam and depress the bucket and then remove the shim, like the old GS suzuki.

proof that I'm not just sitting around drinking coffee and browsing c-list for bikes.

Got some ambition going, it got up into the high 30's the other day and I was starting to feel a little frisky.

Pulled the swing arm and cleaned up all the pivots, worked fresh grease into all the bearings, put a new chain slider on,and then I noticed the shock was leaking.

    DSCN0875.JPG

This is the remnants of the stanky, filthy oil from the shock. I've never pulled a shock apart but with my freshly minted certified youtube master mechanic license, why not it's a KLR after all.

You have to grind down a wee bit of the shaft where it is peened over the nut, used a dremel to work it down.

Putting an All Balls seal head on it, I've had so so luck with All Balls products, we shall see how this one works, if nothing else the old one can be disassembled with some fidgity work and new seals.

Topped it off with a 8.0kg top gun spring, and tomorrow I'll take it into town to the Honda shop and have 140 pounds of nitrogen installed.

How hard was it to get that main swingarm bolt out? Mine is stuck pretty good.

It wasn't difficult at all, I spun it with a impact and then drove it out with a drift pin.
