There appears to be a new genre of pedal-bike coming out. The Bultaco Brinco and the Stealth Bikes Silent Bomber are two light-ish and almost-light (well, lighter than most motorcycles) pedal bikes that have a serious electric heart. It's conceivable you could turn the electric end off, and pedal on bike trails. Or get on a major road and merge into traffic, perhaps even on some highways. Are there many other bikes like this out there? Many more on the horizon? They're expensive now but if they get a little cheaper they'd be a lovely option to have. edit: I'm looking for bikes in around the 30kg range or less. Should be able to motor at above 60km/h for at least 20 minutes. Be engineered from the ground up (rather than battery+motor strapped to dedicated pedal bike) to handle these kinds of situations, so fully suspended. Basically I'm looking for something that can do a day-to-day 20-30km commute, on roads with varying quantities of cars and speeds. Something where you can keep up with traffic even if it's going at above normal pedal-bike speeds.
