Apparently China municipalities are banning motorbikes, even electric, and "anything with two wheels" (quote)

Meijs Motorman may be for the urban commuter who likes to slow things down. It's 28mph was chosen specifically to be classified as a noped in most states/countries, so that it may also be riden on most class 1 & 2 bike paths.

Has a range of 43 miles with a six-hour charge time, and weighs in at just 99lbs.

    Motorman key specs
    • Range: 43 miles (65 km)
    • Top speed: 28 mph (45 km/h)
    • Torque: 44 ft-lb (60 Nm)
    • Power: 3 hp (2 kW)
    • Weight: 99 lb (45 kg)
    • Battery: lithium polymer

..price is a bit high at 5 g's but admittedly a great looking retro with good range.

LunaCycle / Sur Ron has a new EM called the Light Bee (possibly the translation intended was "Fire Fly" from Chinese to English) for around $3200 US that offers selectable 28/45 mph modes with a hot-swappable battery pack.

Luna Cycles generally specializes in street-legal and not-so-street legal e-bikes out of China, and the Sur-Ron definitely approaches the electric motorcycle more from the e-bike side than the motorcycle side. But a motorcycle it is, and a pretty nifty little package too, from the looks of it.

Weighing in at just 110 lb (49 kg), the Sur-Ron has a 6-kW (8 hp) mid-drive, axial-flux motor, and Luna says it'll be doubling that power soon with an FOV sine wave controller upgrade as an option. Torque at the rear wheel is allegedly 200 Nm (147.5 lb-ft_ – thanks to a two-stage gear reduction off the 25-Nm (18.4-lb-ft) motor itself – and it's a single-speed powertrain.

In performance terms, as stock, it'll ride well alongside something around 100cc. It most definitely wheelies in the right hands.

The battery is a lockable, removable pack comprising 176 Panasonic 18650 cells for a capacity of 33 Ah at 60 volts – or just under 2 kWh. Luna says this pack's one of the best constructions it's ever seen, and early teardown reports are in agreement. Charging is particularly easy, since like an e-bike, you can pull the battery out, take it inside and throw it on the wall socket.

It's got 19-inch wheels, four-piston hydraulic brakes and a chain drive, although it'll certainly need a chain guard. The frame is a high-strength, forged aluminum cradle design weighing in at just 7.8 kg (17.2 lb), while suspension is provided by an Intersect TR shock and Fastace forks – these are heavy duty MTB units that look slim compared to hardcore dirt bike gear, but should perform decently on a bike so light.

    excellent video review

appears to handle the trails quite nicely

Very fair price for a good looking 30+ AH lithium powered e-moto with solid specs- My curiosity is definitely piqued. Swap out the knobbies for some street tires and this could also make a great runabout in the city.

Here's another bike from Sur Ron right at 10kW of power for the street called the White Ghost with 100 km/h (280 Nm) max speed and 100 Km range. Below is a video of a working model to show proof of concept. Here are some known specs:

    4.2 kW 60v battery
    Charge time: 3 hours
    Linked ABS brakes
    309 lbs
    13.4hp equivalent

Cool features include LED headlights that incline themselves as you lean over to help you see around corners, a two-speed, dual-clutch auto gearbox and a basic traction control system.

^ skip 40 seconds in to see the bike or 1:10 to see it rolling

If the Light Bee's value is any indication, this may be a worthy medium range EM. Hopefully we'll get to see these stateside, DOT and VIN ready.

Honda had debuted this back in 2010 & 2011 for the Japanese market. Some of Neo’s DNA will be shared and improved in the upcoming Honda Cub EV.

Honda EV Neo Electric Scooter Price: $5400

Range: 21 miles (at 18mph) Top Speed: 30 mph
Charge Time: 3.5 hours Battery: 72v lithium ion
    Recharge: 3.5 hrs (100v) or 30-minutes (200v)

Details are sparse on the EV Cub, but I really like the design. Hopefully we’ll get the chance to ride one here in the US sometime soon at a price similar (or less) to the EV Neo.

87 million units of the original Cub have been sold as of March 2014, making it the bestselling motor vehicle in history. That is more than the next three bestselling vehicles — the Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Beetle and Ford Model T — combined.

    Randomly came across this today:

RZ Ninja 3000/72v Electric Motorcycle - $3199 shipped

    3000W, max speed 90km/h
    72v 20Ah (50km range / 31 mile range)
    72v 40Ah (100km / 62 mile range) for $300 more

    Controller: 24 tube
    Climbing degree: 40
    Charging time: 6H

    Dual hydraulic disc brakes
    Front/Rear wheel: 110/70-17 / 140/70-16
    G.W. 200kg

    https://www.ebay.com/i/122892955076?chn=ps&dispItem=1

Gotta say, pretty good lookin Ninja clone. Likely SLA’s at this price, so I’d estimate the 40Ah’s 62 mi range to be closer to 40 with high speed/aggressive riding. An upgrade to lithium after the SLA’s deplete will increase range and performance, and decrease weight.

These were called "Zappy" style in 1997-2002. Everybody had one.

Here's what I remember about the Zappy-craze days, keeping all factors, including recharge times, security from theft, etc etc, in consideration:

    - These Currie/Zappy's were practical for trips of up to approximately 4 kms, but didn't do hills.
    - Ebikes were practical for trips of up to 8 kms, but didn't do hills.
    - Larger sit-down electric scooters were practical for longer trips. After 2008, with the advent of non-cogging, gearless, brushless, non-heating hub motors with matching controllers, range, for me, became infinity.

The Manta Project is just a prototype but I would love to see Italjet bring these to the states to sell (as long as it's not cost prohibitive).

"Unfortunately, ItalJet is not yet eager to tell us whether and when will we be able to take a test ride aboard this somehow intriguing blast-from-the-past bike. Riding it may look a bit uncomfortable at first sight, as the flat trackers have never been famous for ergonomics. Still, the dual piggyback suspension in the rear is sure to make the thin leather seat much comfier than expected."

We’ll be watching it to bring you more info on tech specs and maybe, availability. All we know so far is that the ItalJet Mantra can do 24 km/h (15 mph) and its juice pack provides the 250W motor with energy for some 50 km (31 miles) or so.

Zero S 7.2 fits in this thread. 11k list. 308 lbs.
I have one. Not crazy about the sport touring position, but that’s at least somewhat fixable. Super fun to ride. I use it for running errands and some commuting. Built in storage above and behind the battery.

Anybody who rides with pedals in that location and the handlebars like this, tell us how you like it.
