I've had threads in other subforums about my girls (that what SWMBO calls them). Got a pm from a mod saying I should post in Day Trippin'. So, here I be. SWMBO said this is my last bike (again). The most fun I've had on 2 wheels has been on scooters until I purchased a CTX1300. It was wonderful. As I've gotten older, I started the downsizing because it's hard to keep it up. (Intentional there. Feel free to insult me).
Starting the first of September, SWMBO said she would ride with me again if I got a bike like the old VTX1300R I had. Well, that's not downsizing. The good thing is, she doesn't know a 400cc from a 1800cc. All she knows is the way they look. So I got the Shadow Aero VT750. Took 2 weeks of dealing with the stealer to get Enchanta. Sept 12, 2019 is her birthday.

Now to take her home and pretty her up. Debadge her. Introduce her to Panda, Xing, and the gang.
Those that don't know me, will meet them later :photog

Had to have some storage and a shield. I did say I'm getting old(er). So 4 days later, I can't wait for the extras. I'm near Birmingham, Alabama. I decide to take a short trip and finish her breakin.
Off to Ms to visit the casino.

Looks better debadged, doncha think? Had a riding companion that didn't want to stop and let me take more pics. So this is the only one for her initial trip. Took this the next morning before the return trip. Fanny pack around the steering wheel and the tank bag was enough for an overnighter.

Week passes by. I take Xing out for a ride. Went north near a popular camping area called Brushy Creek. Xing wanted to know if that was a totem pole. She had never seen one before so really didn't know better. Just a power pole with lots of ads nailed on it.
Xing scampers over to the post and climbs up looking for a big house. She can't read, so I didn't tell her what this place was or she'd get all sad on me.

Good short ride and testing for the position of the new batwing.

Lots of illness in the family. Going daily between the Dr for SWMBO and the hospital for mom. I needed more storage for carrying the extra junk food mom wants.
Took the Givi V47 from the scooter and mounted it on Enchanta. Looks pretty decent. Local guy has a working windmill. This was as close as we could get. Panda asked where the rest of the airplane was :lol3

On the 22nd, got to take a longer ride. Panda was speechless when I showed her this frog. She later asked me if it had been mutated with radiation.
Tried to get a good shot of the holloween decorations. Panda asked if we could get the pumpkins and make pie. Answered her that we didn't have room in the trunk......ha.....

Rode up to the local Veterans Memorial where they were honoring our heros. Had a good turnout.
And I changed the mudflap. Used a bit of plastic from a garbage can, trimmed it up and attached it with 3 bolts.
Had several people asked me if I was planning to color match the batwing. Not planning to right now. But....things change.

Thanky Eric. Just can't get out enough. But, things will get better (or bitter). I'll be happier when I can ride further......
Today, took a few stops not so far from the home, but it was cool and enjoyable.
This was a store from my childhood, called Brackett Store. Kids around the community would ride bikes here and hang out for a short time eating candy and sodas. They were called pops back then.
Had a nice porch on the front for us to sit on. The bus that went to town came by twice a day. A nice twisty road going up the hill nearby and the teens with their hotrods would come screaming by the store. Those days were full of excitement.
Nothing really exciting, but as I rode by this sign, the sun was directly above it and I just had to stop and take the photo. Panda is looking bored. I may have to let her stay home and get one of my other companions to ride. While we are moving, she does wave at eveyone though. I've even had a few kids to flop their arms in jest when passing us.
A sweet, smooth, and scenic ride...great for meandering :photog

American Cast Iron Pipe Company (Acipco). This was the place to work when I was a kid. Employee owned. Free dental/medical. Great credit union. Employees shared the $$/profits. My dad and many of his family/friends worked here. After the 2008 slowdown, it hasn't fully recovered. We also have the worlds largest cast iron statue in Birmingham. I'll try to get a pic of it on a later date.
This is the place I visit daily. Mom has been here for 3.5 years. It is a very nice place considering..... During the spring, it is especially nice to take her outside and enjoy their beautiful landscaping and flowers. Last year, the maintenance guys painted the little island by the pickup/dropoff area. I had been parking my bike there (with permission). There are still tire prints where I went the next day before it dried :jack
    [IMG]
Dogtown. Well, it isn't anymore. Just known for the cemetery today.

A nice twisty road between Birmingham and Brookside. This is the section that leads up the local dragstrip. Used to be a lot of accidents here as young men feeling their oats on the way or returning from the dragstrip wanted to prove they were just as good as those dragsters. Only one death (a fellow motorcyclist friend of mine) ever at the dragstrip. Unfortunately that isn't true for the youngsters on this road.
Nice narrow windy dirt/gravel road hugging the base of one of the foothills. Lots of accidents here also as us teens explored our limits of off road riding with street bikes.
This little store was owned by my 2nd grade teacher. She always made a little money from us by having our excursions to stop here. Nobody cared back then. Teachers always had other ways of supplementing their incomes. Most of my thoughts are about Radar (from the M.A.S.H. series) when I see the Grapico sign.

The Honda Shadow really is a great bike. I miss mine sometimes. I wish mine had the shaft drive and fuel injection that they have now.

Nice weather today. Panda and Ying wanted to go out. So, we went out for a ride.
As promised earlier, VULCAN, the largest cast iron statue.
Ying was asking why he was weary a mini skirt.....
A beautiful display. Sibyl Temple just south of Vulcan.
Ying wanted to climb while Panda waited on the bike
    [IMG]
Ying asked to see the phone. Waving to mom. She loves taking selfies.
The temple. I know Ying has cute eyes but she is underage, so you guys better just hold off!!!!!

I think this is one of those kit cars. Anywho, it looked kewl.

This old truck reminded me of the truck we used to gather hay when I was in my teens. We would get $5 per day and either a peanut butter/jelly sandwich or bologna sandwich with a soda. Used to call 'em pops back then. Funny how so many words have changed usage and meaning during my short life. Panda thought it was interesting. Ying just gave me that humpffff look!!!

I absolutely love this road going to my home. It is just so beautiful and I feel so lucky to ride it every day (almost).

Local BBQ place. It's pretty good. One across town is better but also more $$. Panda doesn't eat meat. When I eat these pork BBQ plates and sandwiches, she says it is the same as camnibalism.....What does she mean by that???? :lol3

Grandpa Clampett's barn. I caught a few rat snakes, got stung by many a wasp, gathered eggs fron chickens in the top, and spend a lot of time playing and working around this barn back in the day.

Legion Field. This used to be the place for the Iron Bowl as well as many a home game for the Tide (Alabama). The Bear (Bryant, not Panda) used to take charge of everything.

    Nice, I love that color.

I had a 2009 Honda Shadow Aero. Actually it was my first bike. I started riding at 50.

Kept it about a year and traded for a VT1300.

I really should have kept the Shadow. It was just as fun to ride and actually handled better.

I can certainly see myself getting another Shadow when I start downsizing.

Yep, I understand. I've owned 7 Goldwings. Started down sizing around 2004. Got all the way down to a Kymco 400. Loved that scooter. Well, really loved 29 of the 30 bikes I've owned. That VT1300 is beautiful to me. But beauty is subjective.

Gold Wing is great for slab travel and for rallies and such. They are a great bunch. IF you will be riding 2 up, then this is the way to keep momma happy.

Yes, that was my 2010 Interstate. HERE are some pics from one of my trips if you enjoy looking at the bike. It was so much fun traveling on that bike. My brother was traveling with me on his C50. That was when I thought I wanted the V-Star 950. I traded for it. Wish I had kept her. But this 750 is almost as good, cheaper, better on mpg, easier to find parts, and has been in production since 1983. Not quite as long as the Gold Wing, but still a good long run.

On Oct 30, 2012, I had a guy get behind me in his cage just as I was leaving B'ham. I pulled into the rest stop as I crossed into Georgia. He parks beside me. He gets out and says I made his wife mad. ????? He says when he saw the bike(VT1300 Interstate) he had to know what it was and followed me all this way just to find out and his wife was pissed at him. :imaposer

I never ride 2 up. Mostly just putting around within 100 miles of the house. That is why the scooters were so nice.

I love the Interstate pics. Beautiful bike.

so what is it like going back to a cruiser after being on a scooter? Does it feel slow and heavy?
