Hi. I'm Erica. I'm from Los Angeles, CA. I've taken two months off work to travel through the states on my bike. I initially had no intention of keeping a ride report, but since I sprained my ankle yesterday, I'm taking the down time to start one. I can't guarantee regular updates, but will definitely try. I left Los Angeles on the 11th of August to visit my sister in Las Vegas. Since then, I've been to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell and random backways. I am blown away by the natural structures that Utah has to offer, but even more amazed at the overwhelming amount of riding and exploring that can be done here. I met a fellow ADV rider yesterday, Jeremiah, who patiently rode with me through some great off-road riding. I think I ended up pushing myself too much sometimes and ended up like this:

I ended up jamming my leg between my right pannier and some rocks, and now have a slight sprained ankle. We decided to set up camp at Lake Powell for the night, with plans of a big meal consisting of mediocre steak, pasta and smores:

And after a day at the lake, I finally felt like I fit in at Lake Powell:

    Taking the necessities:

After the ferry ride over to the other side of the lake, I was caught trying to wash the mud off my bike at the gas station:

We rode to Monticello and said our goodbyes (remember Jeremiah, the night of the scorpion!). Since then, I have ridden through Arches National Park and am holed up in Moab trying to keep the swelling down from my ankle. To be continued...

Keep the report going. It's going to be a great way to track your progress and for you to look back on later.

    Have a good ride.

You're not going fast enough if you don't fall down once in a while. Looks like you picked a good bike for the task at hand, enjoy the ride.

One more night in Moab, and then headed to Salt Lake City. I don't have a set route, but I think I'll be heading north towards Boise and Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. More pictures to come!

    Erica -

We all love a female rider who is not afraid to give it a go. I agree with the other posts - you have to fall eventually (frequently !) in the dirt. :lol3

That is just how it is, so try not to get caught under the bike when it does go down.

We're all looking forward to more posts, frequent progress updates and more photos.

We're all riding with you on your adventure....!! :evil

    1. It is a wonderful ridable world out that side of the great pains (plains, SD, NE, KS, OK). Enjoy it all at your leisure.

    2. Keep an eye on the swelling and discoloration. If it does not decrease or if the color does not start to fade an a couple days, you may have more damage than is apparent. If at any point the swelling increases or the pain gets worse, stop at a Doc in a Box for a thorough look see.

Rest (yeah like that's going to happen)
    Ice
    Compression
    Elevation

then gentle stretches and soft exercises till back to full mobility.

    Best,

    DrMike
