Looking at building a subframe to mount a cargo style sidecar for offroading . The bike normally has a bash plate that bolts up to the front of the frame and under the motor ,pretty light construction but strong. Want to replace it and build something stronger that also connects up to the rear rack to mount the sidecar off . Is 1.6mm tube going to cut it ?
    Cheers

I'm assuming you're talking about 1.6mm wall thickness, as the skidplate tube looks to be at least 20mm?
In my not so expert opinion, you need at least 2.5--3mm wall thickness assuming you're sticking with a double down tube set up, and using a similar OD dimension to what the skid plate is using. I would personally continue both sides back to the luggage rack, and have your front upper and lower, and rear lower using a cross piece that ties both sides together. And I'd make a mounting bolt find its way to the sidestand bolt as well.

Sidestand mount and foot pegs are a on one bracket bolted to motor and samwiched between skid/bashplate bottom mount . Think I might weld the subframe to that bracket and then up to the rear rack . Be one piece and can unbolt at each end and motor .

    How the experts do it.
Hard to get good pictures when the owner is trying to earn a living but I got some.
OK for up to 25mph it seems though with the bigger loads they go slower.

And a flash little gjigger in the showroom at the new EAON2 shopping centre here in Phnom Phen.
Pretty neat factory custom and they had a bunch of variations.

I noticed a CT90 sidecar rig in “Sit, Stay, Ride” movie but I don’t know if you can see the mounting. Might be a friend of Drone?

    Fun part
Matching up a chair with welded mounts without getting the grinder out

    20190314_153617.jpg

Whole lot is hinged so it can fold up still attached to bike and fit in a standard motorcycle crate for shipping .
