Hello friends, end of August every year, we celebrate the great European Sidecar Rally. "Three days, three wheels": That's the motto on the camp ground at Weiswampach/Luxembourg. This year (August 27.-29.) we expect again appr. 1.600 - 1.800 sidecars from all over Europe. Just to give you an impression of what here is going on, here are 325 interesting pics (taken by my forums-comrade 3rad) from the 21. European Sidecar Ralley in Luxembourg end of August 2009. https://3rad.smugmug.com/2009/Fahrt-n.../9602047_Yi7jX So have a look and enjoy. The organizer of this event (The German Magazine "Motorrad-Gespanne) have counted in 2009 1600 Sidecarists from all over Europe! The sidecar rider with the longest journey came from UK, Spain, Finland and Norway. Regards from the other side of the pond. <a href="http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/STUETZRAD/?action=view¤t=ArrivalatEGT2008.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/S/STUETZRAD_ArrivalatEGT2008.jpg" border="0" alt="Arrival at EGT 2008"></a> SidehackSigi
G/day Sigi I intend to be there, unfortunately not on my sidecar, but on a solo. Plan is airfreight myself and my bike with Qantas into Frankfurt about a week before the rally, and staying till late October so I can attend Intermot in Cologne http://www.intermot-cologne.com/ and the beer festival in Munich. Cheers
I hope for you that you can arrange to attend the Sidcar Rally in Weiswampach, the Intermot in Cologne and the Octoberfest in Munich. I also will attend the Intermot-cologne as every year. That event is always a thrill of joy for me. Cologne ist just in front of my door - only about 26 miles from here. Take care. G/day Sigi I will be there will bells on (unless my toes are pointing upwards) Maybe with a mate. I will also be attending the Motorrad-Reise-Treffen rally at Gieboldehausen, was last there in 2000. Your outfit, EML? Would love to catch up with you. Prost
I have often heard about Motorrad-Reise-Treffen at Gieboldehausen but have never been there. That village is situated closeby Göttingen in the German state Niedersachsen at about 230 miles east from here. http://www.motorrad-reise-treffen.de/ Yes, my outfit is made by EML engineering, Netherland. Here is another pic: <a href="http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/STUETZRAD/?action=view¤t=-GL1800EMLGT2001-Remagen.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/S/STUETZRAD_-GL1800EMLGT2001-Remagen.jpg" border="0" alt="GL 1800 EML GT 2001 - Remagen"></a> Would be nice to meet each other at one of those events.... SIGI BTW I suppose that`s your dreambike: <a href="http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/STUETZRAD/?action=view¤t=ROCKETIII.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/STUETZRAD/ROCKETIII.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Hey Sigi. Correct, Gottingen, the Universty city full of push bikes. Took the ICE Train from Frankfurt to there, now that was an experince. Hell, 230 miles, that's just up the road here in Oz. We do that before lunch When we were in Europe, we visited several sidecar manufactures, unfortunatly we didn't have the money to buy one Yours looks great, will it be at the Sidecar rally this year? I'll keep in contact Cheers
Hey Chris, you are extremely fast in replying my posts. I live with my lovely wife in the low mountain range called "Eifel", an eldorado for bikers of all kind with dreamlike roads and curves. The famous formula 1 racetrack "Nürburgring" is just 27 miles and Weiswampach/Luxembourg 58 miles from here. I know very well, such distances ares just peanuts for you. But I have also a lot of experiences as far as long distances are concerned, since I worked a couple of years as CEO in the US. I will be with my wife and our grandson ELIAS at the rally all day on Saturday and Sunday (28.and 29. of August.) The young sidecar generation - our grandson Elias: <a href="http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll274/STUETZRAD/?action=view¤t=MygrandsonElias-.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/S/STUETZRAD_MygrandsonElias-.jpg" border="0" alt="My grandson ELIAS"></a> Regards from Germany SIGI
It's only 2.30am here in Oz I'm sure we will catch up at the rally. Back to sidecars. Your front end. Looks like a variation of a leading links. Who built it? Any other photo's? Cheers
Chris, the ExtensoDive front fork on my GL 1800 is designed and developed by EML. For more details and pics click the link: http://www.emlsidecar.com/starteng.htm In order to deliver a motorcycle with sidecar according today’s regulations and safety standards and to make sure the sidecarist will enjoy the road holding qualities and brake performance of the rig, EML modifies the motorcycle. Summary of the modification: - ExtensoDive front fork with a 165/65R14 tyre mounted on an EML manufactured 14” front wheel assembly. - A stiffer aluminium triple tree replaces the stock lower triple tree. - The steering head is made longer and is reinforced. - The Honda available brake disc covers can be mounted. - The sidecar is mounted on a stiff sub-frame attached under the engine. - A 185/60R15 tyre mounted on an EML manufactured 15” rear wheel assembly. - A GL1800 without ABS needs an ABS ring (back wheel), this is not included in the kit.. The steering function is high-grade stable, safety, easy and comfortable. I can steer my heavy rig more or less with to fingers. Is it necessary to book to camp at the EGT ? When is it possible to arrive for camping ? Maybe with so many nationalities attending, we should have flags and an ADV emblem to display ?
The European Sidecar Rally is the world`s biggest sidecar rally, nevertheless it isn`t necessary at all to book to camp at the EGT. Most of the visitors to the rally who intend to camp, will arrive early in the morning and during all day on Friday. Some other come on Saterday. For more information as far as organization and event-schedule is concerned, please click the following link: http://www.motorrad-tv.com/egt/egt_09/09_1.htm The issue for 2010 will be similar to 2009 and published early April 2010 SIGI
And here you´ll find a small video of the 2008 edition of the European Sidecar Rallye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G59_7tw3WkM See you in Luxemburg. Winterbiker
Is it OK to go to this rally on a solo? I'm at the early stage of building my sidecar,to go on my 1981 Goldwing(I'll start a new thread, with pics,in due course!)but it won't be ready in time for this rally. It won't even be ready this year! Also,I know someone that wants to attend this rally on his trike, will that be OK? Twistgrip
Solo's are fine, as are i think Trikes, perhaps Winterbiker can confirm this,in fact im pretty sure its ok for Trikes.
Who else will be going. I'll be there, no bike though. Would like to meet people. Staying at Hotel-Restaurant KEUP. Garry
