I'm out in O'ahu for the foreseeable future. Since gas is so expensive and the roads are so bad my Vstrom 1000 and Honda PCX 150 have become my main modes of transportation.

As and when I visit new places I will try and post them up on here.

Last weekend I visited Robin Master's residence aka Robin's Nest from Magnum P.I. It was also used in Hawaii 5 O. IMG_20190907_123145.jpg IMG_20190907_123010.jpg IMG_20190907_130409.jpg

Don't forget Ching's market in Punaluu beach for fresh poke!

A few years ago my wife and I flew to Honolulu for Christmas. After a couple of days the noise was driving me crazy so we rented a Suzuki TX250 to get out and ride around the island. Lot's of fun. Lot's of scenic stops. The bakery/deli in Haleiwa has great food and good place to stop during a down pour. Have a great time while you're there.

You're right about the noise. I will hear more sirens on a Saturday than in 3 years in my last place. I'll check out chings market.

I purchased the Honda PCX in 2015 in Aurora, Colorado. It currently has 9000 miles on it. Pretty low as it was used as my cabin scooter.

I believe the gas tank is 2.1 gallons and I have got as high as 115 U.S. mpg.

On Oahu I am getting anywhere from 92-106mpg. This is mainly due to wide open throttle driving on the interstate.

The only time at which I have issues is on the H3 East going uphill to the H3 tunnel. It is a 60mph limit, I am maxed out at 53mph. At the top part where it is 55mph, I am going 47mph.

I just replaced the IRC rear tire at 8500 miles. Before I came out here I ordered a load of tires and spare parts to save on postage.

    Upgrades include:

    Dr Pulley 12gram weights
    NCY Variator
    NCY drive face
    Givi tall windshield (not installed)
    Handlebar risers
Shad rear rack and top case
    Givi tunnel bag
    Givi saddlebags
YSS Euro G adjustable rear shock

I see a lot of cheap and nasty Chinese scooters here, mainly 50cc as you don't have to insure them. In future I will not go below a 250, though I maybe tempted by the ADV150.

I’m riding a TW200 from Kaneohe (avatar pic) across H3 for work as well. I changed the rear sprocket by 3-teeth (15/50 to 15/47 ) to be able to cruise better. Not sure if you can do that with your PCX, but worth considering.

I cannot do that with the pcx as it is a CVT. The mods I listed improved the mid-range and top end speed. On a flat ground I can get up to 75mph (eventually) as opposed to the stock speed of 63mph. Other than a k&n and aftermarket exhaust there is nothing much I can do, even with those modifications performance gains will be probably unnoticeable and not worth the money.

Tonight I installed the Givi mirror kit for older PCX 125 2010-2011. This extends the mirrors so that clears the tall givi windshield on full steering lock. The factory position of the mirrors do not allow you to see beyond your shoulders.

Took the Vstrom to Lanakai to climb to the Pillbox. I climbed the full trail far beyond the pillboxes. By the time I reached the end it was nightfall and ended up having to walk an additional 3 miles to get back to the bike. Sadly my phone is a cheap piece of grab and loses so much color in the pictures. Great hike! Get the AllTrails App for your phone if you do not have it. At the end of that trail, there is a route down to the neighborhood if you do not want to backtrack. Due to the crescent-shape of the hike, the walk back to trailhead is just a few blocks.

Near you in Kaneohe is the Puu Maelieli trail (pillboxes overlook Kaneohe Bay), and Hamama Falls.

    Ride well. Be well.

This morning I went back to Thomas Magnums residence to watch the sunrise. I'm going to invest in a Nikon DLSR as the picture quality on my phone is poor.

I use a givi wetback that is the liner for the givi outback trekker side cases to keep all my stuff dry. At 5 am it's not too bad as the tide is out.

New Rev It Sand 3 Summer gloves. Initial impressions are that they're of decent quality, fit is excellent. I am usually an XL, these are XXL. IMG_20190923_155919.jpg

I was up near Haleiwa this morning before the Instagram hipsters showed up. Personally I prefer the Windward side but I want to explore everywhere.

That old bridge is the Rainbow Bridge on the North Shore from the 80s surf movie North Shore. IMG_20190903_072734.jpg IMG_20190903_071957.jpg IMG_20190903_075432.jpg IMG_20190903_072734.jpg IMG_20190903_070753.jpg IMG_20190903_071259.jpg IMG_20190903_073157.jpg

I prefer riding early or later in the day to avoid the traffic. It seems to have died down somewhat in the last month because it's no longer tourist season. I stay away from Honolulu and Waikiki as much as possible. Friday evening at 7.45 there is a free firework show at the Waikiki Hilton. If you park at the Ali Wai harbor you can get free parking.

I'm paying $3.22 a gallon for regular gas which is expensive. One of the reasons I favor riding the scooter over the vstrom.

I've seen it at $2.90 at Costco but the lines there are very long.

Since I'm a big Elvis fan I am going to visit all of the places on Oahu he was associated with. First stop is the Punchbowl at Schofield barracks. 10th November 1957 Elvis played in Honolulu on his first of many visit to Hawai'i. 11th November he played for the troops at the Punchbowl.
