Some shower options: Hang up a solar shower on the door Baby wipes like your on deployment. Use showers on the beach. See if there are any military facilities that have showers (gym/hq/rec center) and use CAC.
Today I decided to take a ride to Ka'ena Point Trail Road and finally use the passcode access to the dirt road. I've walked it before but it's a long walk with no shade. I picked the worst time to do it at noon. Just before Ka'ena point near Army Beach. The more I watched the waves, the more I needed to go swim and cool off. Once you unlock the gate this is the view of the road. The road is a lot steeper than it looks. It is heavily rutted, large rocks, deep dips. I should have put the parks permit sticker on the back of the bike and not the cases. The bike is heavy enough in the dirt. However I was very surprised how well it does with the 604/605 shinko tires. Watching loads of off road riding videos on youtube paid off but sometimes if you hesitate your going to fall, just send it and the bike will climb. The biggest issue I had was the skid plate bottoming out, many many times. This is by far the hottest I've seen it in Hawaii. More to come.
By this time I was having a lot of fun riding in the dirt. I got to the end of the main trail and decided not go all the way back to the start and the explore the side trails. I tried to make a right turn here and dropped the bike. Just the scuffed the crash bars and pushed the highway peg in. I forgot to fold them inwards. I'll adjust them tomorrow back to normal. The skid plate saved me countless times. I really need a crf300l, but I was really impressed with this "road bike" off road.
Most of the coastal hiking trail you can drive/ride on. However there are some sections where there is deep sand. With proper dirt tires and cases, no bueno. This trail beat me around quite a lot, not really photos of the really bad parts as I was just trying to make it through. The damage: By this point I was pretty dehydrated, I just wanted to get in the water but not here. At this point I was too hot and needed to get some cool air by opening up my jacket and getting back on the road towards Wahiawa. This is the first dirt riding I've done since I used to live on Colorado, it's been years. As soon as these tires are done I'll put on the full dirt 804/805 shinko tires and attempt Peacock Flats without side cases on. The pics here don't do this trail justice, it was rough. I wouldn't take my Subaru Outback on here without heavy duty skid plates.
