    Lovely FXDR.

This weekend I visited Ka'ena point, Army beach and the North shore. There is a lot more shallow lava rocks on the Northern beaches compared to other ones I've visited. I'd hate to surf right into them since a lot of them are obscured by the water.

Still looks beautiful with heavy overcast.

Some better pictures of the Rivco anti vibration highway pegs. IMG_20200204_080229.jpg

Ever since I installed the Oxford heated grips, on long trips my hands will buzz from high frequency vibrations felt thought the Oxford grips. These Grip Puppies have totally muted the vibrations, the heated grips are a little less hot due to the thickness of the grip puppies. IMG_20200203_191956.jpg

Nice pics of the N. Shore , looks like Rocky Point. If you are on the N. Shore during the weekend, mainly Saturday, try to check out the Kahuku MX track, it has a small yellow sign on an unmarked road that goes up the hillside, near a bus stop along the wall before you get to Velzyland. Google it, easy to find...keep the pics coming, My annual pilgrimage to the N. Shore didn't come together this year, your thread keeps reminding me to carve out some time and go before summer comes. Thanks again!

I'll be on the North Shore tomorrow. I'm guessing the MX track is too technical for a big adv bike? I've seen a lot of dirt bikes on trucks covered in red clay. Not so sure I want to stain my bike with that stuff.

Hawaiian Spam Musubi I made. Spam here is about 50% more expensive than on the mainland. I'm thinking about joining Costco, hopefully I can buy it by the case load.

I rode to Nimitz Cove Beach in Kapolei for a work function. The night before I had made 50 pieces of Musubi, 20 hot and spicy, 30 Teriyaki for the event. All by hand without the tool to make them with. Next time I'll be buying the Musubi maker. Anyhow Nimitz Cove Beach is right next to the U.S. Coast Guard flightline.

It's a secluded beach with the usual Chronics hanging around (homeless on meth) in tents on the side of the road leading up to the beach. So not somewhere If leave my motorcycle unattended for a long time. A good view of Honolulu and Diamond Head.

    IMG_20200207_123944.jpg

Not the best beach by a long shot. To many rocks but a good area to have ceremonies and functions.

I loaded the Musubi in my top box and halfway there I could hear an annoying creaking sound. At the edge of my mirror I could see excess movement with the top box. I pulled over and found that the 2 of the 4 bolts that mount the top box mounting plate had sheared bolts.

This is the second time it has happened and it is a major pain in the ass to remove them bolts. After a very long time I managed to remove both sheered bolts. I'm going to have to be careful I don't overload the top case in future.

    IMG_20200207_122040.jpg

I'm not into cafe racers but this Thruxton R is not bad looking.

I ordered a kickstand extender for the PCX a few months back from China (pre corona virus). It arrived a few weeks ago and promptly sanitized it in Lysol.
    IMG_20200214_122314.jpg

On the Vstrom I finally got round to installing front and rear brake pads. Brembo all round, replacing the original pads at 25,000 miles. Realistically the original pads would have lasted 3000 more miles.

    IMG_20200214_122846_1.jpg

    IMG_20200214_123644.jpg

I haven't test them so I cannot offer any feedback on them. I have Brembo brake pads on my Mustang and they put off an extreme amount of brake dust. Hopefully these are different.

Picture of Lanikai on an evening run.

^^ Yes rent a bike, Eagle riders has a rental office there in Town. Go see the entire island...Go to the West Side! do not believe the warnings just be cool to the locals, stay low key and low volume. Amazing roads on the East side as well, be careful, On one visit (work related) there a Japanese newlywed couple that slammed into a guard rail (maybe looking at the sites and not the apex?) Sadly both died. Still requesting the MX pics on the N. Shore , open only on weekends and yes the red dirt is there but it washes off if you get on it that day. Great Ride report!!

Thanks, I still need to go. I'm trying to avoid people until the Coronavirus dies down. As you know Oahu is a major holiday destination for Japan, China and South Korea. It's just a matter of time before widespread infection.

Costco in Waihapu has empty shelves right now. Even the military commisarries are out of toilet paper.

    Earlier today.

I bet it won't be long until panic buying beginsat the gas stations. I'm resupplying my preps now before the normalcy bias wears away. Good job I can get 100 mpg from my Honda.

Last minute topping off preps before the shops run out. I'm surprised by the amount of stuff the PCX can carry.

    IMG_20200314_133933.jpg

Evening run on Kailua beach. A lot less tourists, much quieter and peaceful. 3 miles one way, 3 miles back.

At 25,000 miles the rear shinko 705 needed replacing completing 11,000 miles. I could have got another 1000 miles out of it but since it rains a lot I wasn't taking chances. I removed the wheel and had the tire changed at a local shop for $50. Rip off for sure.

    IMG_20200222_110811.jpg

Today was a nice day to watch the sun go down on the Leeward side. Loaded up my side cases, my wife and I set off traveling from East of Oahu to West. On H1 West I was riding in the far right lane and saw my left Givi Outback Trekker case fly away in slow motion. Before I had a chance to say fudge it was gone.

I pulled over on the hard shoulder and could see someone had hit it. I began the walk of shame to see if it was salvageable. I did manage to recover my sandwiches, Tabasco pickles, shorts and flip flops.

The case was just too far gone. This is not the first time I've heard of these cases falling off. So I am going to have to order a replacement since I still have the right side but ideally I would like to switch to lighter softbags.

From this point onwards I will be using lockwire from the Givi racks to the cases to act as a safety wire in case they fall off again.

After this I wasn't in a beach mood. Never again Givi.

Thanks, it's sucks because once you spend money in the cases and frame, the cheapest option is just to replace the case (which is still $300 from motostorm) however after this I'd prefer to go with a different brand of soft bags. Having said that some of the soft bags are really overpriced too.

Sorry about the Givi. But I don't think I've ever seen Kailua Beach so deserted. Must have been nice change ....

Evening Doc. I was riding around Kailua tonight on the PCX and it was like a ghost town. All the bars and restaurants were shut. No one is buying overpriced drinks tonight.

So I headed over to Kailua beach for my evening run and it has been shut down along with Lanikai beach.

I don't want to sound like a knob, but there's something really cool about riding two wheels in a deserted place.

Finished the evening with a run round the loop at Lanikai. As I parked the scooter before running an ambulance screamed past me. Eventually I caught up with it and the paramedics were in a semi hazmat suit thing. Needless to say I sprinted faster and took a wife birth. Not a job I'd want to do, many thanks to the paramedics out there.
