Mission accomplished! We made it to Cornucopia and got the shot of the Northernmost post office.

Ehlers general store which opened in 1915 is a meeting place for locals and it was pretty neat to be here in the morning and out of tourist season to interact with the locals. It was cool that everyone knew everyone else. I talke to an older gentleman who told me about some of the fishing history and told me about some places to check out.

One last thing to do, that is to get as far north as possible in Wisconsin. We head out into the area northeast of Cornucopia and into the Apostle Islands national lakeshore. More great gravel and dirt roads lead us to Point Detour road, which stops above Lake Superior. This is as far north as you can go in Wisconsin, and 385 miles north of where we started about 24 hours earlier.

Point Detour campground would be a great place to spend the night!!

I sure would be interested in hooking up with you if another ride is planned. Looks like one of the best WI. rides I've seen yet.

I was wondering if you guys where going to find the Delta Diner. My favorite spot for lunch or breakfast. Todd the owner/cook is a motorcyclist from way back and if you pull up on a bike chances are he will walk away from the grill to come out and check out your ride and say hello.

The Diner is an original circa 1920's roadside diner. The real thing. Not one built to look like a roadside diner. Back in the day they would make these things in a factory completely set up with everything needed to run a diner. Ship it to your location, drop it in place, add some power and you where ready to sling some Hash and Eggs. Todd tells the story better but evidently he found this thing in a farm field in Ohio or some darn place like that, shipped it to Delta and restored it.

If any of you ADV rider are anywhere near the area it’s worth a detour to check it out. I recommend the Norwegian pancakes for breakfast and if your there for lunch just order the Blue Plate Special and you can’t go wrong.:dg

    fantastic!

Your report brings back alot of fond memories.

My grandparents had a summer place near Minong and I spent much of my childhood summers exploring the woods, and logging roads around Bass, Gilmore and Sleepy Eye lakes on an old Honda ATV.

Some great pics too.....nice job on the "ADV" picture.

Well thats about it for pics!

We rode 386 miles from my place to Lake Superior. The full route that I mapped out from the Wisconsin / Illinois border is 534 miles and I hope to ride that soon. Here is a general idea of the route:

That way I can claim this.

The "adventure" is in creating new routes. I went past the diner last year but never stopped. A great road also near there is H which runs past Twin Bear Campground and the very nice road called "scenic" which is just off H.
Some great memories made on the Wisconsin backroads....

Very nice write up and great pix. Looks like a lovely ride. My summers were spent at my granparent's place on Harris Lake in Vilas County.
Hope to see pix of the rest of your trip.
    Suddenly, I feel like camping.
