@NSFW -started a little bit about it in L.A. Adventure Ride thread. Terrible to hear that happened, but I guess it's a statistics thing. You figure 100's, 1,000's, 10,000's of high speed passes through there over the years, eventually something was going to happen. Very sad.

I saw an "update" from a Ridgecrest area Facebook page early this morning saying she never had a chance to eject.....Hopefully that's false. Every other article I've found has her status as unknown.

Looks like just below the Father Crowley lookout point to me.

    What a bummer.

No, near vertical. Recovery of pilots remains and aircraft piece s will be pretty tough.

Spoke with a couple pilots here in Miramar. Details are vague, pilot had no time to eject. High speed impact and the entire crash was shot on video which the gov't seized pending investigation. Numerous cameras, angles and witnesses that were aircraft enthusiasts. They feel some sort of mechanical failure at the exact wrong moment and this is the result. Very sad day indeed.

Damn. That's terrible news. The last time I was in Death Valley, I stopped at an overlook before descending. As I looked over the edge, an F18 went upside down below me with the afterburners on. It sent cills down my spine. Thos pilots have nerves of steel.

    Godspeed, soldier.

One of the branches reported more killed in training than in combat. I always hated the live fire exercises where you were training to advance on the mission as people that were behind you shot next to you in other lanes... 40 years ago in West Germany, I do not remember how many fatal helicopter crashes I responded to... sad.
