I think what he is refering to is a metal sheet to hide the catalyst. (Cat)
But people are mistaken what the catalyst is and what the muffler box is.

    1: Muffler
    2: Catalyst.

What he is probably looking for is something to hide the big muffler box. (Part 1)
If the police pulls you over in Germany the check if the bike still has all the original exhaust parts installed. So removing it from the bike is not an option.

And Adam, sorry for stealing your picture. ;)

#2 is the Catalytic converter and has a heat shield on it which is honestly something I would not mess around with because that piece can get VERY hot
#1 is a "resonator" and it is not doing any catalytic work but appears to simply be making the exhaust quieter. It also weighs 7.8 pounds
#3 (behind the pannier) is the muffler (Europeans call it Silencer for some reason) :)

Catalytic converter will be required in EU and I don't think any aftermarket headers exist yet.

Took a spill in some sand Sunday and bent my handlebars. Barkbusters did their job and protected the break lever, but the right side of the bar is slightly bent. Totally functional, and noticeable only when riding barely, but totally noticeable to me. I want to replace them. Anyone ever put pro tapers on their big adv bikes? I’m looking at their high rise adv bars. Would I need new cables?

I hate that stupid box too, so I got the Dominator mid/link pipe to remove/replace it. Just arrived from Poland, will be installed tonight.

I believe referring to an emissions compliance plate/Tag?

I removed my resonator and installed a Remus "connector tube" simply because the resonator is so darn ugly. Second to that is the heat shield over the catalytic converter. I tried covering the shield with some carbon fiber film but it came out terrible. Maybe somebody down the road will make a carbon fiber replacement shield.

    I'd prefer a titanium header w/o the cat :)

Gyrolion / Adam - Holy shit that is totally right... I knew that but still didn't pay attention.
Well THIS doesn't help the confusion - REVZILLA's site:
    "Remus Linkage Pipe BMW F750GS / F850GS
Optional stainless steel mid-pipe for the Remus Hawk and 8 Slip-On Exhaust. Eliminates the OEM catalytic converter for increased horsepower."

Remus' site does get it right though:
"Connecting tube instead of original front muffler, NO (EC-) APPROVAL"
BTW the Remus site has some good sound clips of I THINK the bike stock, with the resonator replaced, and the resonator AND muffler pipe replaced (I assume anyway, since I can't read German..!)
For sound clips go to the SOUNDS/VIDEOS Tab here:

Honestly I don't feel like the Remus pipe looks much better; its very long and bendy.... If it were straight I'd like it lots better!

As pointed out above, that cat gets crazy hot. Does carbon fiber hold up well to high temps? Was that film just plastic? That would burn/melt.

I think the last two both have the full Remus muffler. Translated:

    "Standard silencer

REMUS silencer with VSD replacement tube and sound insert

REMUS silencer with VSD replacement tube without sound insert "

Further clarified on the pipe itself. Gotta love EU who would absolutely slap remus on the wrist if the pipe didn't have written on it "export only"

Here’s the dominator pipe. Little bit more streamlined than the Remus and half the money. Sounds great, the cycle has sound now.
sounds proper too. Finally it has good sound. Not sure that factory muffler actually does much but add weight. Tried to upload a video but I’m an idiot, has good crack and the decel burbles sounds even better

So I installed the MIVV Delta race exhaust and the dominator link pipe. And holy, what a sound!!! I knew this parallel twin would sound good but this sounds incredible. It's loud as heck without the baffle though, any long rides I'm sure to put the baffle in. But for my commute it's definitely staying out. The bike sounds so mean now.
