Since I don't have the tools or place to do that kind of work, I'd take my bike to a shop to remove the forks and ship them to Traxxion.

Is there a wait time? How long will it take them to do the job (including custom caps)?

Traxxion will turn around a set of forks in 2 weeks. So you may need another 10 days for shipping both ways.

Traxxion will send out the kit now that the new caps are made. Not necessary to send in the forks.
Springs are currently on order and I am on the list.

I thought they had to machine the forks for the caps to fit? Or have they made caps that fit without reworking the top of the forks?

It'd be great if I could just have the shop order the kit. Only two things holding me back right now...

    1) the Ohlins forks should be announced any day now. I've seen pics on ukgser. They look sweet.

    2) money. I'm over budget right now. :deal

I understood that the new caps have solved the problem.

I'd agree that my springs are too stiff for off-road - 0.85 kg/mm is certainly getting into road bike territory. My buddy on a 990 Adventure put 0.65 kg/mm into his forks, and he's a fit 210 lbs., and that seems to work well for him.

Good to know as well that there's more adjustment available with the newer caps - I have three steps each - in compression and rebound. I'll contact them and see what they'll cost me. I use the middle settings most of the time.

Although I did get pounded somewhat on the Denali Highway last year with that setup, on the road with gear, it's really, really good. Sharp handling, excellent feel, and very little dive on the brakes.

Right now my AK-20's and my Hyper Pro are almost fully loaded aboard an Allied Van headed to Idaho Falls. I just hate the thought of them being compressed for 10 days, but its been done many times before.

I'm sure everything will work out fine. Ride safe and have a blast...wish I could join up. I know all of our fellow inmates and I are eagerly awaiting a ride report and AK update, :lurk :freaky

    Thanks F8.
We're counting down the days now. My F8 should be in Idaho Falls this Friday.

I've got a (semi) local shop willing to give the Bitubo cartridges a look.
He is 90% sure he can help me out.
    We'll see.

    Yep, they died.
Just over 10,000 miles on them. One leg still has a wee bit of action to it. The other is just spring. That explains the clunk.

    I'll know more tomorrow.

It is well known that the gas cartridge solutions are the best performance but the sacrifice is it will need rebuilding or replacing on a regular basis. That is why I went with the Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 for just that reason about a year ago now. You wont wear them out like the Bitubo offerings. They now offer a great set up for our bikes in a kit they ship to you.

Providing Bitubo gets back to the shop that has my forks, my cartridges will get rebuilt.
More info as I get it. Bitubo has a pretty slow response time.

If the specs for oil and nitrogen cross your path, would you mind whipping out the spy cam and getting a pic for me? I've got 20k miles on mine and would like to 'freshen' them up a bit.

If you're still having issues getting in touch with Bitubo, send me a PM. I'd be glad to assist.

I'm on it. Twalcom Italy responded this morning, so I'm hopeful that I should have something for you soon.
