    Update...

I decided to take a weather chance and go ahead and ride from ID to CO. What I had to get my head around was an active contingency plan to use a uHaul to get back to central ID from NV if the weather is unsafe. My rough cost estimate is about $800.

I am excited about the ride. The weather in CO and UT looks great while Salmon’s weather forecast shows a 25 degree drop and snow is mentioned by next Monday.

Again, these types of challenges are part of the “adventure”.

Thanks again for all of the real-time color reports.

I traveled today from Bear Lake, UT down to Rangely, CO. There isn’t anything to see around Rangely but up by Flaming Gorge is really pretty with patches of orange-red. I think the trees are mountain maples.

Tomorrow I will continue SE thru Aspen and over Independence Pass to Buena Vista. Should be a good ride.

Probably mentioned already but Grand Lake is Peaking. Same with Winter Park.

Ride to check out the colors in WP and Grand Lake, then stop to listen to elk bugle in the park.

I guess in am now a “peeper”. How do I get my adventure rider merit badge?

I came over Independence Pass, west to east. East side is best with good but not full color. Lower elevations seem better that the high stuff. Pretty steady traffic. I followed a “flat-lander” down that was center of the road most of the time. Interesting looks on the faces of the uphill drivers.

I haven’t been through Aspen since 1982. I was not impressed. Over built, lots of traffic with what seemed like a high number of aggressive and rude drivers. Interesting perspective.

I still like Buena Vista. I guess the ice cream shop that was on Main Street closed years ago. It was always a stop when camping with my folks.

Merit Badges? we don’t need no stinking badges.

As far as ice cream in Bueny,
K’s Dairy Delight on 24 is really the only place to go IMO.

    Peeper update for 9/27.

Traveled from Buena Vista to C. Springs. The colors on the upper slopes of the Arkansas River valley are pretty good. Then up and over Wilkerson Pass the trees are about 20-50% turned. It looks like many of the Aspen are stressed and are more brown/grey than yellow.

The ride was fun. Traffic was a bit heavy but moved right along. It was windy across S Park but at my back. Nice...

Traveled from C. Springs to Montrose today. Windy the whole way.

The colors on the east side of Monarch were nice. From the Black Canyon into Montrose was also very pretty.

Lots of peepers out. Some scary drivers too. Quite a few bikes, most of them were adventure class.

Heading to Durango tomorrow, hoping the windy weather passes. Forecasts for 50 mph gust tomorrow afternoon.

Maybe I can get out later in the week for a ride. I would like to get out for a couple days. "Fall Colors tour" type ride. But the schedule is pretty packed right now.

Still at least one more week of peak colors. If the wind today doesnt take care of it.

Bring your sport bike over cottonwood pass. I wonder how long before they have to put camping restrictions along the route. Just like they had to do over guanella. IMG_20190928_143138712.jpg
