With Covid over, the kids out of school, and my wife and I working full time, its actually been pretty challenging to coordinate care for our 3 sandwich eaters. My oldest went to summer camp, youngest went to her grandparents, and I decided to take the week off and head to BC with my middle guy. Wife had to work, but she's happy to have some free time.

Sammy is 7, so a bit young to ride long days, but has gear and likes to ride, and I'm making it fun. We're on a KTM 1090 Adventure R with full boxes so he can't fall off (easily), and the cardo freecom let's us chat the whole time, or call mom...

The plan is to head to Fernie for 2 nights because there is a hotel with a waterside. Then head up to Radium for a night, then home. Simple.

Day 1 was a good day, lots of back roads and jeep tracks. The Highwood pass was free of traffic and clear weather.

The 2 photos above were taken at 10:28. Stopped for a coffee break at 10:48, the weather cleared right up but the smoke was still significant.

Note the coffee brand. I thought it was appropriate for this trip.

Saw some cool wagons at a roadside pit stop. Likely some tourist outfit had them staged for some kind of back country camp trip.

Pitstop in Longview for lunch and fuel, then headed to the FTR via Indian Graves. Managed to take the Dutch Creek trail all the way to Crowsnest.

Heading through Sparwood, there's the sign for "worlds biggest truck", with a giant dump truck parked there. I've been past it a million times, but when you're seven years old, the world's biggest truck is a legit big deal! Had to stop.

It really is a big-ass truck.

The end of day 1 in Fernie, pizza is our reward. Shout out to Fernie Pizza and Pasta, amazing food and happy to recommend. Yellow waterslide in the background was the hands-down highlight of the trip, as per Sammy.
